Good Morning. It's Tuesday 9th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road It’s very, very quiet on the transfer front - Hay Speaking on the Square Ball podcast, Elland Road journalist Phil Hay has admitted that 'it’s very, very quiet on the transfer front for Leeds at the moment'. We're almost a third of the way through the transfer window, and Leeds are yet to make a signing. Losing the services of Djed Spence don't seem to have worried the gaffer, who seems content to bide his time. Leeds have been strongly linked with moves for Welsh quartet Connor Roberts, Neco Williams, David Brooks and Kieffer Moore but have missed out on Liverpool starlet Fábio Carvalho. Jurgen Klopp believes his services will be better spent at Hull City. please log in to view this image Spence banished to train with Spurs U21's Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be furious with Djed Spence after Daniel Farke terminated his season long loan at Elland Road, and have banished to train with their U21 squad. Fans have been critical of the 23yo, claiming to be disappointed by his performances, but we must remember he was still recovering from a serious knee injury he sustained in training. We must also take into account, he spent the majority of his 390 minutes in a less familiar role of left back. Even so, he still commanded a better 'Whoscored' rating than Pascal Struijk (6.86). Whilst many have supported Farke's decision to take the moral high ground, will they still be so supportive if it costs them promotion? Spence is regarded by most as being the best right back at Championship level, and was only going to get sharper going into the second half of the season, not to mention a fresh pair of legs. please log in to view this image Has Cresswell's fate been sealed Speaking on their 'Don't go to bed just yet' podcast Adam Pope and Jonny Buchan have expressed their disappointment at the lack of first team opportunities Charlie Cresswell has had this season. The 21yo started the second game of the season at St Andrews, and hasn't been seen since in the Championship, apart from three substitute appearances. Even his father, and former Elland Road favourite Richard Cresswell has taken to social media quoting 'it would be nice to see him play again at some point'. His omission from the FA Cup side that thrashed Peterborough may have been the final straw. According to the BBC journalists, Charlie's fate has been sealed, unless something remarkable happens. Blackburn Rovers are pushing hard to seal the loan signings of both Cresswell Jnr and Joe Gelhardt, but with Ayling expected to join Boro, and Liam Cooper heavily linked with a move to Stoke, can Leeds afford to lose another defender? “I try not to let my own personal views get in the way of this, but I don’t like seeing players who come through the academy go without getting a real chance. “Now, I get it – Joe Rodon has been exceptional. But to lose Cresswell, without seeing him have a Leeds career, is a real shame. He’s such a talented player. Yesterday sort of sealed that for me, unless something remarkable happens.” “I interviewed him before the season started and he talked about expecting to play more. He spoke really well that day. “Yet here we are with him not involved with the squad for an FA Cup game. Staggering.” please log in to view this image
Let’s sit tight, keep our powder dry till all is finalised, then we can start and assess the situation.
Morning all. Everyman and his dog now has a podcast which means Phil Hay & Popey etc are in there competing for listeners and now have to come up with content of interest. Hence the continual noise around Cresswell, but what we really need to know is how highly does Farke rate him because all we've heard from the horses mouth so far is that he would like Charlie to stay. Please can someone of note pin Farke down and find out exactly what he's looking for from young Charlie and how close is he to ticking those boxes and getting some game time. Shouldn't be too much to ask should it.
Morning all. Interesting titbit I picked up on yesterday and can't confirm if accurate. Creswells dad had a heart attack in October and its taken a lot out of Charlie, worry etc.Maybe Doc or someone may have some info
His dad works at his agency but God forbid he is just trying for some fees. I mean would he do that surely not.
Not for a proper journalist, no. For the modern ego-trippers, money-grabbers, & crayon scribblers we suffer these days, unthinkable. They struggle to write a paragraph, far less investigate a story - and a story is most often what we get. In the fashion of fairy tales. Where have all the great sports writers gone?
As I have said on countless occasions there is a big story if only someone would get off their arse. Phil Hay interviewed Hayden Evan’s not too long ago as hes a season ticket holder and has some great stories about some of his players like Alan Smith, David Batty, Gary Speed his best mate, Wilkinson and loads more. He spoke about bringing Richard Cresswell into the business to mainly handle Charlie his son and Alfie the other son also at Leeds. Andy Gray is part of his team and he’s looking after Archie and Harry Gray. Wouldn’t it make sense to find out what the truth is because Charlie hasn’t been ill or injured and is fully fit, but Richard Cresswell is peed off and Charlie is gutted and as hinted at telling the club to go do one and might not agree to a loan as he ants a permanent move. 6 Championship clubs want him plus a couple in Germany, a Spain and Italy. And whispers that Spurs may even be in for him. He must have shagged Farkes dog or something….
