Well we go back to the Tony Blair argument. Someone who says something they believe to be true at the time, which is later shown to be wrong, is not a liar. Not in my book anyway. The media and social media apply an unreasonably high standard to those in public life and one which they don’t always meet themselves. You could say it was our own fault for Cundle. It seems to be the question of availability got the issue into the media and the media reports of his availability stimulated interest in a transfer. Did the contract really require us to ask Wolves for permission to play him in the FA Cup? Surely the onus was on Wolves to tell us if there had been offers, if that was relevant, rather than us having to ask. In any event, the correct answer was “Luke is available to play, if selected” not “there have been no offers for Luke from other clubs “. I’m not suggesting doing anything improper. If the contract says you must ask, ask. If it doesn’t, don’t. And don’t mention transfers until there’s something to say.
72 clubs in the FL....and the one club who shows enough interest is Stoke.....who by chance are now managed by Schumacher. Maybe we're to honest as a club......They do say that..." honesty is the best policy" ?....did we have to get permission to play Cundle.....if we did and the answer was okay....then why recall him after he was cup-bound....all a bit strange......but if Schumacher came calling suggesting we'll pay more of his wages if he comes to Stoke.....knowing what his previous club was paying....that to me is a bit slimy and underhanded.
Talk of Argyle showing interest in Joe Gelhardt...21 yr old... 5ft 9in... Leeds striker.....spent time at Sunderland last season.....would be a good loan....but he is on high wages...which could be a problem. He has played 35 times in the Premiership over two seasons for Leeds....so has good experience for his age. This is another player known to Ian Foster through the....U18/U19/U20 England set-up.
Cundle declares that Stoke are a massive club and he is delighted to be there playing for Schumacher. Oh dear Mr Cundle we're sorry we've been slowing down your progress since Schumacher skived off for more money.....must be glad to get away from little old Argyle.
i dont know why players have to say sucj things, he only makes himself look stupid now and he goes down in peoples ratings, well they may have been a bigger club, but not at present. good luck to him..
notdistant are you seriously suggesting that Blair said something he thought to be true at the time? If you are then that is total bollox and the writer of the report into weapons of mass destruction testified that his report was "amended" and of course he then went and hung himself from a tree and if you believe he did that then that is also bollox. We won't go into samantics about wording differences such as amended/re worded. I have read a lot about Schumaker recently and have to say that I am now of the opinion that he is/was a slimy as he is now portrayed. No different from his predecessor and a number before him. Kiss the badge then shaft the club seems quite the norm in football circles. I said before that the only genuine people in football are us the ones who follow a club forever. Even owners have been known to screw a club over eventually when it suits. I have no doubt we needed to ask Wolves if we could play Cundle in the Cup and it seems logical to ask at the same time if they had any plans for him regarding recalls etc. It was in the Press here but I doubt it was written all over the Country. I would agree with the idea that this move was engineered by Schumaker and swallowed by Cundle who looked like he was playing his last in the Cup game by his demeanor.
We should avoid lionising people one minute and condemning them the next. Most of our heros have feet of clay and most of our villains have something good about them. He’s gone and I think he’s made a mistake. Stoke aren’t a glamour club and show the signs of erratic ownership. Maybe he’ll make something of it but he could have done better and I wouldn’t put money on him still being there in twelve months time.
Ovie Ejaria is on trial at Home Park at the moment.....released last month by Reading....originally bought from Liverpool for £3 million. 26 yr old....6ft....mid-fielder had been omitted from their squad last year because of injuries and also for disciplinary reasons ? He is a free agent and if he is fit and a good boy he could be a good asset for Argyle in their mid-field void at the moment......is he a risk worth taking ?
Argyle and Leeds have agreed a loan deal for Darko Gyabi to join Argyle for the rest of the season.....a contract will be signed later today. Gyabi is a 19yr old Central-mid-fielder who is 6ft 5in tall and has played for England through the youth age ranges (15-20).....as a young kid he played for Cray Wanderers who until recently shared the Hayes Lane ground of Bromley FC.
Two quality youngsters....Ashley Phillips and Darko Gyabi have been signed up on loan....hopefully to strengthen our defence and to fill our spartan looking mid-field.....both young but have proved that they have talent.....and that will help with their lack of experience.
I see Ben Purrington has left Ross County and joined Exeter on an 18 month contract.....nearly made it back home but not quite.
Aston Villa have recalled Kaine Kesler-Hayden back to the club......He played 27 times for Argyle......Will he suddenly pop up at Stoke next week ? We need some serious recruiting in the remainder of the January window.....in all areas accepting goalkeeper....although there is a chance of Callum Burton going at least on loan.
We can’t release a keeper as Michael Cooper is out for an unspecified period. I’m getting fed up with this loan malarkey. K-H has put in a good shift for us.
No surprise with this one......Lewis Warrington has returned to Everton. Both clubs have agreed that he will not come back once he has recovered from his injury. So all four summer loanees have now left Argyle.....two new ones have come in this past week....so we do have scope for more loans....if we want them. So by the end of the January window we should have a lot of new faces in the dressing room....so a lot of new bonding required to make a team required.....some difficult times ahead....and some hard matches ahead as well.
