I can't tell if this was meant to be sarcasm or not Robbie if not I fully agree with it. Played Liverpool plenty of times recently, always get battered - what good would that do the confidence of the team
There's plenty of players that have never experienced getting humped at Annfield that would probably enjoy the day out, doesn't look likely we will be playing them in the league anytime soon. Miracles do happen but beating Liverpool would be beyond that
You're allowed another go Suffolk. How about this then? Personally, I think Wagner should field a full strength team for the Cup replay and tell them "This is a must-win game".
Let me be the minority of one again - as usual. Whatever way you look at the accounts we are heading for stormy waters. A percentage of receipts from a full house at Anfield, a share of the TV money and the money you get for getting into the 4th round - we need the money. A good day out for the fans and a day that most of our players will never experience again. Yes they might get a thumping but that is expected and will do less harm for their confidence than the tonking they got at Plymouth. Put the first team out in the replay - there is nothing else to play for and we need the money!!
Welcome aboard Robbie! In view of the comment made by Suffolk I did not know whether you were being serious or not
Last time, 5th Round FA Cup, March 2022, it ended 2:1 to Liverpool. Like on that occasion, they'd play a much changed team, "good enough to beat Norwich" --- but have Salah and Alexander-Arnold etc. on the bench just in case. This year's 4th Round draw has thrown down a gauntlet; surely we'll have enough pride and courage to pick it up?
"We will be ready for the second leg and attack the game and see what happens. Football is about dreaming and things happen like tonight which probably shouldn't happen. We go there with our eyes wide open and know what to expect, but it won't stop us trying." 'Boro manager Michael Carrick after his team beat Chelsea last night in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final. Chelsea were wasteful. According to Opta, only one EPL team has missed more big chances this season than Chelsea; that team is ........... Liverpool!
Trouble is as a fan we want our team to play every game as though it's the play off final. Truth is if you put on your pragmatic head this is / was a nothing game. It would appear that Wagner was / is looking at the bigger picture so using the game and I would suggest the replay predominately for managing players return from injury and developing players. If Fischer is going to develop, at some point, he has to start taking corners / free kicks. Maybe they were going really well in training, but he couldn't replicate them in a game. You can't develop players without giving them opportunities. It's not surprising we looked disorganised, like a team that hasn't played together before, they probably haven't. Lets face it if this had had been a championship we would never have played that team out of choice.
But surely he can use the rest of the season to do that. We have no to little chance of getting promoted or relegated so why not go to win the replay, have the day out at Anfield, bank the money and spend the rest of the season planning for the future?
Fixture change hands Liverpool an FA Cup financial boost as fourth-round path clear Liverpool will face either Norwich City and Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round Great writing from the Echo https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...ws/fixture-change-hands-liverpool-fa-28432468
