Interesting comment. I was watching City with an Arse fan the other week. He basically said what you've just said, that how we try to play is just like how Arse play. But, but, but Rosenior said ......
He seems to think that UEFA will alter the qualification rules for English clubs. That they would allow us to enter a team in a competition that other clubs have to play a full season of games to win to qualify by winning 6 games in England. No chance.
Why meaningless? More chance of teams winning it because all the big clubs with their millions aren’t in it, so teams might start taking it seriously. How many teams actually get a big payday from the big teams anymore anyway.
Cup winners qualify for Europa League unless they have qualified for Champions League ( we were he last club to qualify as losers because Arsenal were in the Champions League, Now they free up a place for a lower PL team. Carabo Cup winners go into the Conference I believe. Can’t see teams giving up the FA Cup to be able to play in those competitions. And no way would UEFA allow Cup winners to go in the admittedly misnamed Champions League. They scrapped the Cup Winners Cup to set up the current competitions. Personally I preferred the old system. Some great Cup Winners games and the Fairs Cup often produced better games than the European Cup. UEFA do not recognise the Fairs Cup as it was not a UEFA tournament. So that means technically Leeds have never won a European competition.
Thanks for that, so if both Cup Winners already get Europe, they would already know they don’t have to worry about the FA Cup, so they can then concentrate on their European campaign. I never suggested any cup winners go into the CL, just the Europa & Conference.
As I said, can’t see clubs agreeing to give up the FA Cup to enter those two. The FA Cup winners are normally clubs who qualify for the Champions League . Since 1990 can only think of Portsmouth, Wigan Athletic and Leicester (who qualified that year for the Europa League by finishing 5th) who have won the Cup and not qualified for the Champions League. Maybe be another but would have to do a lot of delving for that.
So you wouldn’t like it if we won it because we didn’t play any big teams? 2014, we played Arsenal, no other big teams! What difference does it make if Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs & Newcastle aren’t in it? West Ham took the Conference seriously & won it!
They are as dense and unaware of the realities as those idiots holding up banners proclaiming Queers For Palestine,
but they don’t work independently …they have lawyers, advisors, agents & family members all offering an opinion
I heard this morning on TS that the players have to complete their two year contracts to benefit from tax free payments. Some contemplating leaving will have to factor in repayments to the government on money already earned. Henderson said its too hot....
