We were spoilt for two years with Don Fabio. He’d have probably had Werner and Dragusin in already where they would’ve played against Burnley, lined up Hojbjerg’s £30m sale to someone and already began negotiations for his replacement to be signed by about Friday.
Napoli have not offered cash + player, they offered cash + loanee Also, Genoa aren't strapped for cash, as their owners are a American investment fund who in the last two years have bought 94% of Everton, 100% of Standard Liege and 70% of Vasco de Gama (prior to that they bought 99.99% of Genoa, plus a stake in Sevilla) What Genoa are trying to do is have their FFP cake and eat it too because the Napoli offer means they get to keep the €20m Napoli are offering while getting a CB on loan for the remainder of the season, while our offer is €25m yet Genoa would immediately have to spend a good chunk of that to sign a CB
Probably not, given Paratici is good for getting players in but was never as good at getting them out - hence the likes of Winks and Reguilon were only loaned out last season
That’s fair enough though. Every club has to do what is best for their own interests. They might well prefer €5million less but a player on loan (loan fee and wages could easily cost €5million anyway) than to have to spend it on a replacement in January.
This is why I suggested the possibility of loaning Ashley Phillips to them a couple of days ago, as if that's the game they're playing we should consider that as a backup option (or to put it another way, I can honestly see a six month loan for Phillips being an easier sell than Tanganga at this point) On the subject of games... So that gobshite Florin Manea who seems hellbent on running his mouth whenever Romano reports that we've made progress? While he may be Dragusin's agent, he's not involved in the negotiations, hence how he said he'd be headed to Italy at the weekend even though we'd been in negotiations since before then (which I said was weird when he said it) as Dragusin is a client of the GG11 agency - the same agency as Vicario, for context So we've got an agent who isn't acting as his agent ****ing things up every time he runs his mouth, a club trying to have their FFP cake and eat it too, and some club with money coming in at the last minute trying to piss on our chips because that's the sort of hamwallets they are We're so ****ing back, lads!
Dragusin Watch Dan KP says that Dragusin has made it clear he wants a Premier League move Get ****ed Bayern!
If we’d have given Phillip some minutes this season it might have been a possibility to convince such a loan. But telling a Serie A team to sell their best CB to us and take an untested youngster seems a bit of a stretch.
The CB they reportedly want to loan from Napoli spent three seasons at Brighton and had just as many PL minutes as Phillips has had Or, if you prefer The CB they reportedly want to loan from Napoli is 24 and has somehow played less top flight matches in his career than Tanganga has, which makes Tanganga knackering his knee after falling off his bike in training with Augsburg a real pain in the backside...
He’s played about 90 more games than Phillips has and with Serie A and senior International experience though. That’s far more appealing to Genoa than if we offered Phillips in a similar deal Napoli are offering. Us offering a youngster with a handful of Championship games and who’s been overlooked in his position by us for a RB during an injury crisis to temporarily cover the loss of their star CB doesn’t really give Genoa much encouragement to think it’d be a good deal. Phillips (and Dorrington) does need to be loaned out this window though. Hindsight obviously helps but we should’ve let him stay at Blackburn for the season like we’ve done with previous deals for younger players.
Whatever happened to the 'if you're good enough, you're old enough' argument? I appreciate that VdV is fit again, but we are still pursuing (slowly) a £30m+ CB when we could be bringing AP along. Really hope this works out well for the lad as I have high hopes for him
Completely agree. It’s the one downer to Ange’s management so far in my opinion, not giving him a go at CB when we didn’t even have CBs must be a kick in the bollocks to a player’s confidence.
Dragusin Watch Di Marzio's spelled out the one detail we'd overlooked about Genoa 's asking price: Juve have a 20% sell-on fee Long story short, what Genoa want is at least €20m after Juve take their big, wet bite out of the fee so the minimum we would be expected to pay is €25m (aka £21.5m) to satisfy that, though Genoa have a very different definition of "at least" to us hence their talk of €30m (which, for the mathmos out there, would leave them with €24m after Juve take their cut)
