Would now be a good time to mention we could've signed him for something like £7-8m when he was at Stuttgart, but Poch opted for Vincent Janssen instead...?

I've done a little browsing and there seems to be a consensus why Werner struggled at Chelsea.
Lampard and Tuchel played him on the left of a three, while he was part of a strike pairing at Leipzig.
We'll presumably be playing him up front on his own if he does sign.
That should allow him plenty of chances from running in behind with his pace.

It may be a worthwhile option to have him and Richarlison in the same team, at times.
Probably not starting any games, but if we're chasing goals and have two wingers as well.

His name bears a striking resemblance to Time Warner who were also involved in a series of disastrous transfers. Let's hope it's not an omen.

Not that I believe in omens <laugh>

Warner pre Chelsea I would be excited , didn't he do a job on us pre Chelsea? Now , a toss up between him and Gil with us drawing and 15mins to go it would be a Werner

To be honest I don’t even really expect a quality striker, just more a competent/ good one, as well as one who can actually fit Ange’s system.

I’d imagine the likes of Paratici and the analysis department could surely find someone with a profile that’d fit as such.

We plucked Vicario from nowhere, Udogie and van de Ven were also relatively unknown or had promising reps yet all three have become immediate first team quality players.

Watching Richarlison miss far more chances than he converts along with stunting so many attacks with his lack of hold up ability, only to now add another forward who isn’t proficient themselves, it feels like we’re not doing ourselves nor Ange any favours in the forward department. Especially with Johnson having a pretty poor start to life at Spurs too.

We’ve gone from having probably the world’s best striker to forwards that the likes of Wolves or Everton could sign. Just feels too steep a drop.

I am trying to remember how key he was in the 3-0
rout of Spurs in the CL (I recall someone running riot) .

Based on the cursory info put here, would I be correct
in assuming he is a "pundit" for Irish football media ??

I think Werner would fit in quite well in an Ange system. He had a hard time at Chelsea, with far too much expectation from the fans but especially the media. Would be a reasonable stop gap until Big H returns in a couple of seasons.....

I’d have thought he’d be more likely to cover Son whilst he’s away? Him left, pigeon boy central and Johnson on the right.

I think so. I just remember him playing a bit. He's probably trying to raise his profile.

    Werner Watch

Does this suggest the LW Watch tag can be retired for this window?

I hope not. He can play there, but he's better as a striker.
We've got plenty of options on the left too, but not much up front.

    Werner, Richarlison and Brennan

That’s a mid table front three if ever I saw one.

Admittedly this is from a couple of reply guys following Romano's tweets, one whose username is 2/3 numbers to boot, but since you need to be logged into Twitter these days to follow conversations I may as well post this

Their claim is that Genoa want to sell Dragusin to Napoli due to their offer being cash + a couple of players, as that gets Genoa out of an FFP hole while also refreshing a couple of positions and getting some cash in the kitty for the summer window, but Dragusin wants to move for us - which is irking Genoa as we're just offering cash, cash they would obviously have to spend

Given the players Napoli are offering are Alessandro Zanoli (RB) and a loan for Leo Ostigard (CB), as reported by Tavolieri, the Football Manager player in me is wondering if a cash + Ashley Phillips loan could be workable, as it gets us the player and (potentially) gets Phillips some minutes
