To think we allowed this man to captain our club. https://x.com/joey7barton/status/1743516036698382598?s=46&t=IY6M0zI1h1T3HNaXabWIhQ
Joey Barton @Joey7Barton Is this the same @ITV @itvfootball that tried to cover up Phillip Schofield grooming and then bumming an under age boy? Asking for a friend.
Subbutenline @SubbuteoOnline Was going to condemn Joey Barton with a hilarious Subbuteo related tweet. But unfortunately the brand never released a 'stabbing cigars in teenagers eyes, racist scumbag murderer family, pseudo-intellectual, misogynist, failed manager, mediocre player, twat' edition. No idea why
Sven-Goran Eriksson: Former England manager says he has cancer and 'best case a year' to live Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson says he has "best case a year" to live after being diagnosed with cancer. The 75-year-old Swede was the first foreign coach to manage England and led the side to the quarter-finals of the 2002 and 2006 World Cup and 2004 Euros. "I'm going to resist for as long as I can," Eriksson told Swedish Radio P1. "I have an illness that's serious. Best case a year, I have worst case a lot less. It's impossible to say exactly, so it's better to not think about it."
In a world of bewildering finances, losses and wild spending here’s a story that shows what good people showing good management can achieve. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67948389
As much hardship as we have with our owners, could be a lot worse.... Reading v Port Vale abandoned after pitch invasion protest Reading's League One match against Port Vale was abandoned after hundreds of home fans invaded the pitch in protest against Chinese owner Dai Yongge. Play was stopped in the 16th minute despite Reading urging supporters to leave the pitch. And the game was called off by referee Ross Joyce when they refused. "We want to play football matches, but we also understand people's frustrations," Reading manager Ruben Selles told BBC Radio Berkshire. "They made their point together about what they want. It is their club for life and they find ways to express their point. "From my point of view, I would prefer to play that game, and win that game for them but I also understand what they did." https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67899988

Seven reasons why Sunderland should sack Michael Beale now It has taken Michael Beale just seven games to inspire Sunderland fans to chant for his sacking. Here are seven reasons the club should listen. MICHAEL GRAHAM 21 HOURS AGO UNDERLAND NATION NEWS It didn’t take us very long to get here, did it? After just seven games, there are already chants from Sunderland fans calling for Michael Beale to be sacked. Seven games. The former Rangers manager was an unpopular appointment from the start, and I understand that. For Sunderland fans, though, that was hardly our first rodeo. In my near 40 years supporting this club, appointing a manager or head coach or whatever (who really cares anymore?) that people are actually excited about is a once in a decade kind of thing anyway. Spare us the whole ‘you have to give him a chance’ sales pitch. We know. Believe me we know. This is a club that have been ‘giving managers (that no one really wanted) a chance’ for a lifetime. There has been Phil Parkinson, Lee Johnson and Simon Grayson in the last five or six years alone. We give managers a chance. And that’s what Beale was given. When the axe falls, whenever that may be, and he’s back to trying to salvage his already-battered reputation in the hope of finding his next set of mugs with a weakness for a PowerPoint presentation, he’ll say he didn’t have enough time – much like his football, though, it’ll be a load of absolute rubbish. Another one: Rangers got sack decision spot on after what Sunderland fans did to Michael Beale last night Rangers were spot on in their decision to sack Michael Beale after the Sunderland fans have already turned against him. The former Gers boss was relieved of his duties at Ibrox on 1 October and was appointed as the new man at the helm of the English Championship club on 18 December, signing a deal until 2026. After he was subjected to his fourth defeat in just seven games since taking over at the Stadium of Light following the 1-0 defeat to Hull City on Friday (19 January), Simon Bird noted how the Black Cats’ fans turned against him. The Daily Mail journalist tweeted that the supporters were heard singing “You’re getting sacked in the morning” – a chant often sung by the opposing fans – as well as “We want Beale out…” after Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho’s goal handed the Tigers all three points. While Sunderland remain in eighth place and are just two points outside of the playoffs, the results – and the performances – suggest they might only be heading one way under Beale. Read on:
That is a really detailed and interesting description of the Sunderland situation. I think we were very fortunate to get 1 million for him leaving us.
Alex Smithies has retired from football aged 33 due to injury. He went to Leicester from Cardiff but never made an appearance for them.
