Just back from seeing Ferrari as a birthday treat...I have no interest in cars (can't even drive) nor formula one but its a great film
I wasn't sure about watching it. Wasn't sure if there was much of a story but I like Adam Driver, he's always very good.
i read about it. its horrific and not sure if they have actually been paid yet even though some of them have gone too prison. Not sure how horizon was allowed to get away with it where were teh auditors of the accounting systems. Been decades now
I thought it would be interesting but wasn't expecting to end up fuming over it. I'd read about it a little bit and caught it on the news but that was it. They got a settlement of £54m but the 555 postmasters only got £14m which amounted to about £20k each, a fraction of the amount most had lost not to mention the time some had spent in prison and some who had committed suicide. Where it ended, it showed that following the inquiry, a number of them then went to appeal and quash their convictions and they won, but others are still going through the appeal. The bloke who led the group and pushed for justice (Mr Bates) then wrote to the government claiming compensation of £46m + interest to repay their legal costs... and he's still fighting. But it showed he was a resilient bugger. Completely determined and a pain in the arse, wouldn't let it go, and it ended showing that he isn't going to until he feels justice is fully done. More power to him and the 555. The way they were treated, the miscarriage of justice, was/is unreal.
It's more to do with the adult life of the original Mr Ferrari and his wife. Would give it 8 out of 10...maybe 9
what i don't understand is, when its this large a miscarriage of justice and that everyone knows about it, it's been proven and its come up multiple times, why the hell it needs people to go fight it through the courts to have the criminal records wiped of this fraud. It costs time, taxpayers money and waiting through a giant backlog to wipe it clean when its an open and shut case
Completely agree, it said only 93 ppl so far had, had their convictions overturned. My only thought is that each case has to be looked at individually in case there is a rightful conviction for fraud which did occur. But surely all the ones that were based on Horizon would all be quashed? So those ones at least (which I bet is all of them anyway) could be overturned in one go without a full drawn out appeal.
Thanksgiving - 4.9 Some creative kills that’s let down by awful acting and the most predictable killer reveal going.
I think some have been shown to have been fraud which is why no blanket clearance has been issued. as an aside PO fraud team were pretty heavy handed well before this but to some extent you probably had to be tome make sure evidence wasn't removed.
Good show watched it this week. Special mention to tax dodger javid, who played a politician that cares extremely well.
I don't know too much beyond what I've seen over the past couple of days tbh. Some of their actions during this period were beyond obscene though. They showed in that drama they knowingly hid evidence that could have cleared ppl who were serving prison sentences. And accusing the high court judge of bias on the day of the judgement so it would end up being delayed for weeks and pressuring those bringing the case to make a settlement.
You'll be happy to hear since that particular Fujitsu **** up rishi sunak has given them 20 million in government contracts. And One of those contracts has since been sub contracted to his father in laws firm. That must be what he means when he said he still has lots to do, lots of taxpayer money to siphon off to his family still.
Fujitsu bid and won the contact for replacing the DWP's computers and systems after a dazzling presentation .They then later admitted only about 50 people in the DWP would be able to do what they had sold as being a standard .Since we had about 85000 staff this led to the "mutual agreement" to cancel the contract
Us too ... think it was a bit overhyped and the much vaunted 'shock jock' moments weren't actually that shocking - but well watchable and I'd go with an 8 ...
