Last night the player did connect with his foot much higher up. The level of contact was the issue which is subjective. VAR will never overcome subjectivity. It is to enable a better understand of what actually happened rather than rely on a rushed assessment.

The big problem with the offside rule is the point of contact from the person who played the ball - is it the moment the ball was kicked, the moment the ball left the boot - they take an eternity deciding where the lines should be on the person who may or may not be offside but based on what appears to be an arbitrary decision at what time the man played the ball

    It’s weird
Might be my eyesight but first look the oppo didn’t touch the ball
Slowed down he gets first touch! Doesn’t he?

It did look a bit soft, but his leading foot missed the ball and his trailing foot only blocked it after the Palace player touched it.

    How can it be appealed?

It's already been reviewed by VAR and upheld. Appeal over.

So Everton now want another review because they didn't like the result of the official review?

Let's keep on reviewing decisions until they get the one they want.*

    * I don't actually believe what I've just said but I've said it to merely illustrate just how absurd the whole VAR situation is becoming. It needs binning.

It’s more in a game by game nature, I think we have a clear identity of how we want to play, but too often we are relying on individual brilliance to get us goals. Of course teams do rely more on their better players but I just feel in the final third we need abit more foundations of ways we break teams down. Without Philogene it’s been Delap causing havoc without him we’d have struggled to break teams down.

I think studs making contact with opponent is a red card under the current rules.

All the comments on here were after the benefit of several slow motion replays from various angles.

Well I’ll finally chip in , I didn’t think it was a red , Morton’s first foot hit the upper half of the and I think their guys was almost in a similar place after that I think Morton’ tried hard to keep his trailing foot out of the way - unlike many Prem tackles . The ref hesitated for long enough before pulling out the card - suggesting ‘pressure ‘ made his mind up for him .
NOTE I have only seen the slow mo once at the time during the match - so this is fresh from my memory - nothing else has influenced me and won’t .

But that wasn't all you said, was it? You said ...
So 95% of the people who commented on it were kidding themselves according to you, and when it's pointed out to you that you might be wrong about that, you have one of your regular hissy fits ...
... 'jumped on'? It's possible to have people disagreeing with you without going into a meltdown, which you seem to do frequently, so maybe that's why it's like 'play school' no?

It's practically impossible for the officials to get it right all the time in real time
VAR is a big help to officials
I dont think the VAR people are trying to agree with the referee
they are trying to make things fairer

Sadly VAR is not going to go away in Premier League. Suspect it’s inevitable that the Championship will follow at some stage.
I think it works really well in cricketer and other sports. I know football is played at a different pace and doesn’t have natural gaps in between action.
However, I wonder if it would be more tolerable if the referee just refereed but each team was permitted one referral per half?
