Busted! Tbf I thought that giving myself MOTM every week would have got me found out quicker... I'm just pleased that I don't get as much stick on here as the rest of the defence. The bunch of donkeys, them.
That’s the issue isn’t it on the pitch they’re desperate to give the on field decision so the referee isn’t seen as making a mistake. They need to swallow their egos and let it help them. Genuinely think premier league refs have one of the easiest jobs in the world. They can **** up as much as they want and then get to watch it back 5/6/7 times and then change their mind.
The people using it are just clueless. None of them have played the sport to a good standard so use the rule book rather then common sense. I’ll never get over some of the offside calls VAR has given
If a team of experts cannot decide whether a rule has been infringed, one can carry on debating it till doomsday (definition of insanity) or change the metric. Why should the fact that someone's little finger is 2mm in front of or behind an arbitrary line have any relevance to anything when, unless you are a goalkeeper, you can't handle the ball anyway. Why should an official need a degree in anatomy to decide whether an arm position is "natural" and what happens if a player has a deformity? They are stupidly worded rules, which defy application by individual or committee (VAR to you). By the way, you do realise the purpose of a committee is to spread the blame?
As someone we know well would very likely say, 'if you thought it was a red card get a ****ing blue and white shirt on'. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Yes, I think there's an incident that's been spoken about a lot in this thread that might have played into that. Can't remember what it might have been for the life of me though.
And Sunderland rely on Clarke a lot. Their win over us was him cutting in off the left (from their perspective) and scoring a goal out of nothing. He's scored a lot of goals for them so far this season. Blackburn are singularly carried by Szmodics. Coventry have had Wright burst to life to propel them up the table. A lot of teams in this division have individuals who are defining a lot of their wins. That's what winning football matches is a lot of the time. Delap scoring against Leicester for us. Philogene scoring a brilliant solo goal against Preston. Connolly bursting to life late against Blackburn to come from behind. Tufan with a brilliant hattrick against Sheffield Wednesday. It's individual performances that make a team's season in this division. We have four players on 6+ goals, with another on 4. If anything we have less reliance on individuals than most teams around our position in the table.
As someone else has already pointed out, a very similar one last night wasn't overturned by VAR. You can't be paying much attention to PL football if you think there aren't lots of bad decisions made through it. Wrong is subjective, but there are decisions that a large proportion of people consider wrong on a weekly basis.
It was even less of a red than Morton's, Everton have appealed. I wonder if they have less chance of success, purely because it would mean that not only did the ref get it wrong, but that VAR didn't function in correcting it.
I actually can't for the life of me see the comparison with DCL. He goes in with studs raised above the ball and makes contact with the opposition player's leg, rather than the ball. Morton's raised leg is not above the ball and takes the ball before his trailing leg takes out the player. I must be watching the wrong footage to think the reaction to DCL's tackle is really over the top.
Can you post the footage that leads you to this view? I've only seen one cut of it but it looks far worse in that he actually takes the players leg where Morton takes the ball cleanly so I can't understand it so must be watching the wrong angle.
I'm absolutely prepared to say I'm wrong on this because the footballing community is so united on it so I'm sure I've just seen one out of context clip, but from what I've seen it looks a lot worse than Morton. I assume he'll get off though and from what I saw of the game it didn't have a huge bearing so at least not as bad as Morton's in that sense.
I was thinking the same thing. Also am I wrong in thinking that he completely misses the ball with the intended foot and fortunately takes it with his trailing foot? I don't think it's a red by the way, just a little surprised at the extent of the uproar.
I think it's very soft in the sense the impact is very minimal but the fact the leading leg takes the players leg and not the ball is where I think it's reasonable for it being a red. As you say, it's a soft red but the uproar I've seen before I saw the footage made me think it was Morton-esque (no contact with the player and just takes the ball).
To be fair this is a great angle of it at real time so I do see the issue with it. Thanks for posting. Probably a perfect example of how slowing things down can give an entirely different perspective.
