Giving it a second more thought - why not place a sensor in the tracking vests that they all wear? that way, it's the same point of ref on all players. Not sure it'd have the accuracy required for the tightest of calls, but that could then be analysed by the WC method. Take the linos out of it.

There's always an element of risk in all sport, it's easy to point to a frame and say look studs up, much as the ref was forced to go and see, but when you look at it in realtime you see the challenge completely differently - I'm already tired of the feign injuries our constantly over the top nursing of grown men brings. When you header a ball there is a risk, should we stop all football now because of it, sport is going to become pretty boring if we go down this road. As Dyche said shall we start looking at every incident frame by frame. Why are we measuring this incident like that, and not some other incident during the game, var has turned the game into complete nonsense. I just find it funny, and laugh everytime a prem club gets stitched up by it, the one true benefit of var is it makes good bantz...

If the refs were allowed to use common sense I think we'd all say its not a red, but once they see the potential to break and leg and a players studs up sliding in at that height he's got to go.

The rules should be replaced with common sense which was just as fair.

I don't think it'll matter anyway because Everton will go though at home more than likely.

The ref had already used commonsense and made a decision, before five officials sitting feet up in a room drinking cups of tea and dunking biscuits told him to go look at a monitor. If you want commonsense, leave him to get on with his job, he was in a no win situation as soon as he was sent to the monitor.

Yeah that's what I'm saying but the rules once he goes over mean it was a red. I've been saying common sense should be used a while.

I hadn't been on all Christmas, mainly as I was busy with the kids, but partially because of you whoppers going at each other hammer and tong over there.

Just because I've challenged a statement in front of your mates, don't be dick about it.

Good shout. I'm up for the tech being used to improve the game and to make clear cut decisions.

Anything that has a yes or no decision should be considered for tech to decide. For everything else, the authority of the ref should be respected, even when he makes a wrong call.

I mean, the thing that makes it not a red for me, is that there is no excessive force, and he doesn't go "over the top". He's hooking the ball away, in essentially the only way he can. His foot is slioghtly raised, of course, but he can't recover the ball any other way.

The grey area - did he endanger the opponent? Well - 100% of all former pros I've heard talk abut it think not. I think we can all agree there wasn't excessive force.

    https://www.thefa.com/football-rule.../football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct

    SERIOUS FOUL PLAY

A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
