I moved back home, from Exeter. But down there they had Woodbury common, where you could park your car and have access into woodlands directly. Is there anywhere up here where you can go and just let the hounds lose?
Cheers marra, just checked and its about a 1 and a half hour round trip. I should have been more specific, I live in Ryhope
Ryhope beach, cemetary on ryhope road, tunstall hill, old burdon, pond cottage area. All near Ryhope.
Few good walks in Seaham, Murton and Easington where you can let the dog off the lead. Park at Morrisons at Dalton Park and head for the recovered pit heap and follow the old rail line into deepest Murton. You can also walk from there over the A19 and there’s a good walkway down to Seaham. Head to Easington Colliery (or nature reserve as it’s now called) and there’s a few walks around there if you don’t mind being near cliff tops. Also Penshaw, head for Herrington Country park on the other side of the road, the little fella loves it round there.
get on Ryhope beach walk to Seaham and come back along the cliffs, check the tide is out first though
When I lived in Sunderland about 40 years ago, we were looking after someones dog, I walked it to Seaham and back, it wouldnt come out with me again after that
Washington Wildfowl Park(winter opening 8 till 4 park there and :- 1. Head east until you hit a19 bridge, turn then left after farm and return to track back over fields (public right of way to car 2. Head west, down to river and you'll end up at Cox Green. From there either upstream to Fatfield, cross bridge and return via Cox green. From Cox Green on south side of river you have endless tracks. to. follow up. to Penshaw monument or along to Offerton. If you drive past Wildfowl turn off, past the Sainsbury's local and take next left it takes you to Cox Green. The lad who lives in the house next to car park is a supporter, good crack but can be difficult to. get away from, he's a decent lad though. Car park doesn't close here, The Odd fellows Arms is a Free House 3. As you're coming from Ryhope you can turn off a19 before Wear bridge onto chester road and take first right, turn left before golf course. then right just before stables down to Cox Green my dog is rarely on lead around these places, usually lots of other friendly dogs around
Not sure if it’s too far for you but Waldridge Fell is fantastic for a day out with the dog. It has picnic areas there and walks that could keep you busy all day.
