We're short of options and he might be one, but I don't think he's reliable enough to play there. I mean that both in terms of getting stuck in, but also being brave in possession. In our game a big part of that CM role is to receive it from the keeper with close pressure behind you, and efficiently move the ball on again, usually to the side. The risk, as we've seen a few times is that player being dispossessed. Tufan is so often dispossessed that I think he'd be an accident waiting to happen in that area. For some reason, you never seem to get free kicks in that scenario, it's as if refs are saying that if you take risks playing out you don't deserve the bailout of a foul when someone comes up the back of you. Tufan often gets dispossessed whilst looking for a soft foul, and I think that could be a really bad combination. The obvious pair is Slater and Docherty, but I think that pair simply doesn't have enough ability on the ball in close quarters. I wonder whether Twine might be an option. Obviously not his main position, but he's neater on the ball than Docherty and he's more reliable and clever than Tufan. I'd trust him receiving it from the keeper more than either of those two.
There's plenty of experience in the dressing room within the management team. Far, far more important is experience on the pitch where situations have to be dealt with by the personnel at the coal face. It's not just about passing knowledge onto others, it's about knowing how to respond as an individual and as a team. All recent successful City teams have been packed with old heads who'd been there and done it: Barmby, Windass, Ashbee, A. Dawson, Koren, Henriksen, Davies, Elmo, M. Dawson, McGregor, Huddlestone, Diame to name just a few. This City team has great potential but lacking in the killer instinct that comes with experience and LR himself bemoans the fact that we need to be more ruthless in both boxes. Previous managers bought in that experience (especially in defence) to push us over the line - Browny brought in Wayne Brown, Pearson brought in Jack Hobbs, Bruce almost always bought experienced pros with a smattering of youth for the future. Imagine this current team with a Meyler or a Curtis Davies in there, personally I'd feel far more confident of going up.
Yeah because it's that simple. Managers obviously never think of it because they're not as smart as us.
I'm hoping he's injured as he's not even getting in the Fleetwood match day squad right now. 6 league appearances since Sept...
Don't know if we can but suspect we don't want to since we didn't want him in the summer and he's not played a great deal since.
He's not a good time there, the manager that signed him got sacked a week later and he got injured in November and I think he's been out since.
I worked with Geoff at Pearl Assurance, as well as Sammy Stewart, back in the nineties, I remember him as a fairly quiet but very nice person. RIP Geoff.
Good shout. I think Twine would be a lot more comfortable in the middle. He would definitely need a tackler next to him, probably Docherty over Slater if we were to try it. I’ve said it a lot but although he hasn’t done much so far, there is definitely a player in Twine. He should never be put on the wing IMO.
Tyler Morton’s red card against Sheffield Wednesday has been overturned following a successful appeal. He will no longer serve a three match suspension.
Excellent. Wasn't really expecting that. I thought they'd use the reason that his trailing foot was raised to uphold it.
Great news! I didn’t think it was a red but also didn’t think it was a clear enough error to overturn. We would have really struggled with both Seri and Morton for 3 games
