Look, I get what you're saying and in theory, yes, you are right. However, I know this club far too well and, despite people sometimes saying I'm too 'glass half-empty', I usually end up being right about Arsenal more often than not.

For us to win the title, we're going to need to win 14-16 of our remaining 18 fixtures. When have Arsenal ever shown they can do that in modern history? Even historically, the only time we went on a run like that was in 2001/02 (which was 14 wins in a row) and that's the only time we've ever done it. We also have some very tricky away fixtures to navigate through which I don't have much confidence that we'll do.

Our midfield is dysfunctional, we don't create enough quality chances and our attack aren't scoring enough goals. A team like that doesn't win the title. And it's unreasonable to expect us to have a sudden upturn of form.

So, this century to finish first (one point above second at least) an average of 84.75 or 2.226 points a game is needed. (Liverpool are currently top with an average of 2.25 a game)- so, so far, this is on track to be a pretty average season as far as points scored at top of the table... It is reasonable to expect the winner of the league will need about 85 points therefore to take it all.

So, 18 games needed for 45points (for Arsenal). So yes, winning 14 of last 18 games is a good estimate if you also drew three. That would get you to the 85 points needed in an average season. Realistically, you can't lose more than one game to have hope; so, it's tough but not impossible. Lose two games and you need 15 wins. Lose three games and you're probably out of the running.

For us, Liverpool, needing 40 points 12 wins, four draws and losing twice, we could still win the title.

This is all assuming that this continues to be an "average season" of course ,that City don't go on a mega-win streak again and blow past the average... points needed have varied as widely as 71 and 98 though... but halfway through we're looking pretty average as far as points needed.

It's a fair point to say that City are not guaranteed to go on a long winning run. Unfortunately though it's not a point I cam take very seriously as it has been said in past seasons when they went on to as good as manage it.

Like the Arsenal fan above, I'm under no illusions about where Liverpool are as a team atm. I think we only win the league this year if City continue to be as inconsistent as they have been. I didn't expect us to even be in a title battle after our midfield rebuild anyway.

Not really. Shoo-in means they're a certainty, and they've never been that. They have been, and still are imo, clear favourites of course - I said that.

Anyway. At half way we had 42 points. 2 more than anyone else, and it should really have been 3. Repeat that and we have 84, which isn't enough to win imo. We have to do better, but everyone else has to do more betterer.

Manchester City are desperate to be the first club to win the title four times on the trot, we only need to push them harder than before.

that might well not be enough.

85 seems very much bare minimum to me at this point. 90 is the target.

Rhys Williams has been recalled from his loan spell at Aberdeen.

The 22-year-old defender is now back at Liverpool following a stint with the Scottish Premiership outfit.

Williams, who joined the Reds' Academy set-up at U10 level, has made 19 appearances for Jürgen Klopp's side to date and also spent time on loan at Kidderminster Harriers, Swansea City and Blackpool.

Obviously you want to aim as high as possible. But for 90 points to be needed it means, not one, but two teams need to have a much better second half of the season than they did first half. (obviously possible because no team was their best consistently in the first half.

Remember, if the winner gets 90 and second place only got 84, 85 points is all that was really needed. The rest is just a bonus.

we need 45 from 18. city need 50 from 19.

city have done that. I'm not predicting they will, cos people get their knickers totally twisted, but I'm saying you have to plan to do it yourself.

until city have dropped enough points to not get 90 then we have to assume the worst case

for example city got 55 points in 19 one season and 45 the second 19.

Easy if we beat Arsenal away, beat City at home, Manchester United away, Aston Villa away and Tottenham at home. Also win all other games:bandit:.
