Does anyone remember that lad we had playing in the middle for us for a few seasons, he was pretty decent - cracking shot on him, great awareness, strength and passing? Gerrard that's the boy! - whatever happened to him? Now he would be a great addition to our squad, like a new signing I say. GOTTA BE SOON SURELY?!
What even happened? I thought it was his groin that was pumped but then his ankle got infected? huh? This story reminds me of Harry Kewell, and he let me down everytime!
I think the fact we're doing ok without him is massive for us. It means when he does finally return he'll not have to be rushed back as with days of old. As you say Denny he'll be like a new signing happy days.
N'god it has been a long time with that! Even when he was playing the last few years he didn't really try them from range as much. Those would sit you up real quick!
I'd love to see him get back in and have a long run in the team just to see how he links up with Suarez.....could be rather tasty
I love Gerrard and all that he has done for us, and I still think he will get over this latest setback and play again shortly, but I'm not sure how much longer he will be a first XI regular. I'm not sure if he hsa the fitness anymore to play 180 minutes a week like the influential suarez now does. I think this season we have started to get used to what life will be like after Gerrard stops playing for us and so far I've been pretty impressed with our new midfield and team. All we need is a poacher!
I posted on another thread a concern I had. He was on his way back and then his groin got an 'infection' in it. That was cleared up and he came back, got a knock on his ankle and that got 'infected'. What's wrong with his immune systen?
With a busy xmas period coming up soon it would be great to get a few games in from him... He dosnt need to play every game for us at the moment... That might just suit him for the back end of the season...
Definately true. I do think the fact that he'll be able to play in a team that he's not having to carry all the responsibility on his shoulders will help him get back to his normal self again. It's never good to be missing a player of Gerrards ability but if this latest lay off has taught us anything it's that we can live without him for spells in a season and as a consequence it could actually extend his playing career for a couple more seasons as we won't have to play him every time he's even remotely fit.
I doubt that even the medics could give you a definitive answer on that. However, if you continually play with the aid of painkilling injections then you will create the environment in which deep seated infection can thrive. When you then have to hospitalise in order to comabt the original infection them you must be using some very serious '****'. Therefore perhaps its like chemotherapy - you destroy the bodies ability to fight even low grade infection?
I'm a little concerned about his lack of games. I still think he's capable of a couple of big seasons - he's only 31, but the more injuries he has the less confident i am in that statement. After being concerned about Henderson early in the season i'm glad to see he's doing quite well now. It would be great to have Gerrard teaching him a few things. I forget we have Gerrard every now and then! The press are pretty quiet.
I know it's hard to feel sorry for footballers given their wages and lifestyle - but it sounds like Gerrard is going through a rough period. Here's hoping he keeps fighting. One day he might end up a real legend like Biscan!
