As we all know, success on the pitch comes with spending money. If money is not spent I'll be going to Barrow to see us play there within three seasons.

Gullible and too trusting is my opinion.

The question is - what will they do when they realise that they’ve been had over.

Jump ship and sell, or sack the SMT and change strategy, adopting instead the Ipswich and Wrexham formula for success.

According to our current manager, McGrandles might be back mid January and Camara and A&Eke might be back end of January (so make that end of February for one game each).

So unless we bring in more than just cheap injury prone journeymen or PL children loans, we are where we are for some considerable time.

    Not looking good.

Latest rumour which looks quite advanced….

    https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-chief-unwilling-to-discuss-transfer-windowtart on Boxing Day-move-for-plymouth-defender/

Now before you all get too excited, can I point out the following………..

He has been out since early summer with a groin injury and undergoing surgery (I kid you not)

He made his first league start on Boxing Day before coming off after 70 minutes with cramp and hasn’t played since.

    We’re saved !!!!!!!! Top 6 here we come !!!!!!!!

CBT and dobson will leave i think. we'll get in a few loans to cover the gaps and be told that we'll rebuild in the summer.

same will happen in the summer. more big earners will go and we'll rely on more loans and freebies

Just seen on facebook that Plymouth defender Macaulay Gillesphey was at the Valley with a view to a swift signing.

    4th tier as a youngster.
Played in Australia under Robbie Fowler.
Then a regular for Plymouth in the 3rd tier.
4 appearances for them this season.

So maybe short of some match fitness but not prone to injuries as far as I can tell <ok>

NO - please see above post - he’s the crock I was talking about - he’s been out since early summer with a groin injury followed by surgery, had only one game back for the first team in the league (to put him in the shop window no doubt) came off after 70 minutes with cramp and hasn’t played again. Basically Camara Mk2. He is exactly the type of player we should be avoiding at all costs, but of course no one else wants him so he is cheap.

Therefore welcome to the mad-house Macauley. Enjoy your pay sitting on the physios bench, chatting with Camara, Chuks, McGrandles, Leaburn, Isted, Taylor and Alfie (<wah>)

    Apologies.
I did not click on the earlier link you provided.
However I have done so now, and Rich Cawley's report makes no mention of his injury.
Before my first post about him, I just looked Gillesphey up on Wiki...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaulay_Gillesphey

Oddly enough there is no mention there either of him being injured since the early summer.
In the stats table it says he has played 4 times for Plymouth in the Championship, after making 40 and 35 appearances in past seasons.
I made the assumption that his low number of games in the Championship was just down to him not being considered good enough to make Plymouth's team at that level. Not an injury.
That was what (in my ignorance) I based my hopeful assessment upon.

Being injured for 6 months hand having surgery is quite important information to just be missing from his Wiki bio and Richard Cawley's article.

It seems Charlton fans are not being told the whole truth - again.
I will be more cautious in future about using Wiki as a source of information regarding potential signings.

The fact that he's crocked also shows that he hasn't been properly scouted, how could he be? We have quite a history of signing unscouted players, and it's not been a success story. We'd be as well to have stuck with Thomas Driesen, he was probably much cheaper than Scott/Rodwell.

    Absolutely this.

I’d ask - out of all the players available, anywhere, WHY have we chosen to go after this one?

As Penguin says, we haven’t scouted him or watched him in a series of recent games to see what he’s like. We couldn’t have. So are we just basing our interest on the fact that he is available and no one else wants him (so we won’t have to compete on price with others) and his previous ability ?

Previous ability before a groin injury and surgery means nothing. Give him 6 months playing for his own team after the surgery and if he’s as good as he was before then fine, sign him if we want.

Otherwise he’s just a risky, cheaper punt. This has Camara written all over it and if Scott signs this bloke it shows he has learnt absolutely nothing and we will continue to struggle, at the best, at the bottom end of L1.
