When Kenny Dalglish took over last season he changed many things one was Raul Meireless midfield position another was Maxi Rodriguez starting to play frequently. The two decisions were good decisions the two players started to score goals.Raul Meereless has since moved to Chelsea, but Maxi is still a Liverpool player. This season the player has not started many games, but last Sunday he started and he justified his selection by scoring the first goal.Do you think the manager should give him more opportunities?. Comments.
Simply....yes IMO. I think Suarez brings out the best in him, he has a good touch and an eye for goal. Definately a good option to have in and around the first team.
I certainly think so, since Dalglish came in Maxi has always put in a good shift. He should be rewarded for his contribution, but I agree with his substitution. If he can give us one good half and be replaced with a fresh legged Downing I think we can maintain a momentum agaisnt City. Another option I would welcome would be Maxi and Downing starting with Kuyt dropped to the bench.
Bringing Hendo on for Maxi was a great move at the time. It strengthened us in midfield and stopped the rot.
I'd continue to play Maxi for the sole reason he gets goals. He's not usually that prolific in terms of playing but he puts away the goals when we need them, and that's something we need and have needed for a while. Until we get a proper poaching striker I think we should play him all the time. We usually have trouble putting chances away when facing the smaller sides, which lets us down but I think we could rely on Maxi to put those chances away if we played him in a LF role. Maxi is also Argentinian, and with Coates, Lucas and Suarez all south American as well I think their understanding could lend well to linking up play with the rest of the team. The only problem is... who does he displace in the squad? Kuyt, Bellamy, Henderson, Downing, Carroll are all up for the area of the pitch we want him to play. Personally I think Bellamy should be starting most of the time with Suarez. Kuyt hasn't really been prevalent this season, probably due to the lack of games but even when he had a run of games under his belt he wasn't putting chances away, and sometimes was being caught in the wrong part of the pitch. Henderson in my opinion is better than Downing, mainly because he can play it on the ground and cross it in. So on that conclusion I'd do a 4-3-3 with: -----Gerrard----Lucas---Maxi------- ---Henderson---Suarez---Carroll---- Something like that with Maxi pushing up further.
100% It completely changed the game back in our favour and I do wonder if this will influence Kennys thinking for Sundays game against City. AVB made a mistake keeping Mata out wide for so long first half and as soon as he moved Mata and Malouda in and pushed the full backs up we were getting over run quite badly. Unlikely that Mankini will make that same mistake and so it may just be that Kenny will consider starting with more men in midfield to try to cut off the supply into Silva, Nasri and Aguero. Tricky one to call really.

I'd keep Bellamy and Adam in personally and play Maxi right, Bells left and Suarez with Lucas, Adam and Hendo or Spearing (or Gerrard if fit) as a midfield 3 to allow more cover to combat Silva and give our full backs a bit more cover to bomb forward Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique Hendo/Spear Lucas Adam Maxi Suarez Bellamy
great thing is we have real depth now...(Wish we still had raul as part of that depth though.) Small changes in the way a team is set up can change the match. For instance sunday: First half we dominated, then they moved Mata and were getting the better of us. Then we changed Maxi for Hendo and sured it up again. no starting 11 can beat all other 11s the most important thing is to have options and a manager who is capable of using the right option at the right time. I think now we have both..... Do you remember over the past few seasons us being 1-0 down and the manager not doing anything, no changes.......AND WE HAD SO FEW OPTIONS THAT WE WOULD ALL BE SCREAMING AT THE TV.....bring Babel On!!!!! So glad for having kenny, the owners and our new range of players...... But in short, should Maxi start more often....Yes
I like Maxi and i think he dos his best work in the final 3rd of the pitch. He can see a move and can also make that final pass. Obv the plus side is he can also score the goals, and he has scored some important ones for us over the games he's played... My only concern with him is that he dosnt always track back. At home when were on top of teams he will be more efective. Away if we have to sit back a bit and the game gets slightly stretched he isnt the keenest to get back.. I suppose its the opposite with Kuyt. I think he dos his best work the other way around. He will always offer cover for the full back but the flip side is when he's up top... He should score more goals than he has, (think he's on 49 now...) but you cant complain with his work rate... Its all about balance and to be honest, as someone posted earlier, we only had Babel as a game changer a while ago... We have so many more systems in us than we did 3 years ago... Only a good thing me thinks...
Play Maxi all the time! I have been shouting that the ghost of maxi was haunting anfield. our scoring rate dropped when KK shut out Maxi in favor of his new signings. Now he has got some sense and has brought him back. Maxi! YNWA.
Yes I think he should he is comfartable on the ball and his passing is pretty good unlike Downing who seem's to me to be afraid of the ball.
It'd help if you put it in quotes so I know who you're referring to. The 4-3-3 I've put there is when everyone is fit, I'm not suggesting it's for the next game at all. It's what I'd do with our squad, and Adam has good games and bad games, I'd still pick Gerrard over Adam and Maxi is a completely different player.
I don't really care who starts. The message that KD was able to say on Sunday was: have a poor game you may not start next match, both Downing & Henderson now understand that, Caroll has faced it Maxi came on like he had something to prove. The whole squad (with possible exception of Reina) now knows either 100% or sit on the bench! Can only improve the individual performances for rest of year!
He should play more often against the so called "lesser" teams. He makes intellegent runs and always seems to find himself in the right place at the right time.
Yes, there is more than meets the eye with Hendo, he is actually a very flair type of player. He will be fantastic for us.
Maxi certainly should start more but I wouldn't mind if Hendo got more chances to sub on for Maxi. I think Maxi starts very well but gets lost around 60 minutes in, while Hendo seems to inject pace AND stability when brought on. It makes me happy to see how many options we have now, Hendo, Gerrard, Downing, Kuyt, Maxi, Adam, And Lucas all are great players and can be interchanged. Suarez, Bellamy and Carroll are our attacking options while Kelly and Carra are fighting for a spot! Reina is world class while Doni would walk into most sides in Europe. Jones is an able deputy as well. Seriously highlights the difference between Kenny and Rafa. I no longer worry about injury or the transfer window, and the squad seems like a big, happy family.
