It’s a strong challenge yes but he is first to the ball, feet not particularly high. It’s a contact sport. Of course his body follows through he challenge at speed showing commitment to get the ball and it was the only time all match I saw that happen. It’s a weak decision made by the ref after Windass screamed and Bannon got in his ear. Not a red in my opinion regardless of which team he plays for.

    Can’t decide over VAR.
City v Liverpool et all it would of been a red for city and a yellow/ nothing for the others.

6 shots on target isn't a lot, certainly to say that they scored three goals. Scoring 50% of your shots on target is very high. xG was similar - 1.15 for them I think it was and 0.96 for us, although ours is inflated by the penalty out of nowhere. All of this rather demonstrates that it probably ought to have been a low-scoring game.

No way is any appeal going to be successful.

I understand where you’re coming from PLT. You are looking at the high quality chances (which are often the ones that lead to goals).

I do believe you are ignoring the others, when you shouldn’t though. 23 shots is a lot, and that doesn’t account for good balls across the box and serious pressure in the final third. They bossed it yesterday (obviously helped by our 10 men, but even were before that). They were getting into fantastic positions easily and it was only their lack of individual quality/decision making which stopped them scoring more.

They shouldn’t have been getting as far as they did in that final third - and I think that it is the difference in how some analyse games. <cheers>

If we think Morton's red was a poor decision, have a look at Smith's sending off for Rotherham, also against Sheffield Wednesday.

Absolutely farcical, though it was rescinded on appeal.

Darren Bond's a ****e ref and he was promoted to the Premier League for this season.

I think an appeal will be successful as with the benefit of all the replays and slow motion it’s clear that he got the ball, studs never made contact with the opponent, trailing foot was also low and wasn’t leading two footed.

I maintain what I said at the time though, looked a lot worse in real time, and even worse from the referees viewpoint. A very difficult decision to make which you can’t really blame him for getting it wrong.

I also don’t think he was influenced by the Wednesday players. If he gives it for serious foul play it had to be a red I think, and I can’t see what else he’s giving it for.

It was silly from Morton to go in like that, it wasn’t dangerous however on second viewing so think it will get overturned. Much needed the next 3 games will not go well with Doc and Slater as your midfield pairing

**** his dad. Deano's reputation was trashed once he threw his hat in with the Allams and we know who he was cheering on yesterday.

Ref didn’t get a second viewing tho
From the refs angle it looked bad

Agree Chazz, makes a really big case for VAR at this level but after experiencing it live I’d rather live with the referees mistakes.

I’d have said drop Traore deeper based off what I’ve seen of him there as a stop gap, but with him gone I’d probably play Tufan alongside one of the two just to have someone with a bit of quality in that area

Think this is probably what should’ve happened. Morton and Slater was worryingly bad as a pairing, hope we dip into that market quickly.

I have been quite critical of Seri's limitations (slow, can't tackle, doesn't do enough going forward) but having (I admit) thought we might not miss him much, I can see he could be a big loss for what he does, especially if Morton gets a 3 match ban which I fear he will. On the other hand, I was defending Mcloughlin last week when others were suggesting he was a carthorse who could be shipped out, and felt last night added strength to my argument. 2 or 3 blocks when Greaves had been skinned by the winger in the first half and for those who say he doesn't read the game, can I point out he completely baled out Jones with an intervention about 10 mins before half time. And my theory that we concede far less when he's in the team was again evidenced by the fact that we conceded 2 in 10 minutes after he'd been taken off. We are shipping goals at an alarming rate with this back 4 and I think we need to find room for him somewhere - either by playing 3 CBs or dare I say it by moving Greaves or Jones into a CDM role for a while when we're so short there.

Seri’s tackling is a really underrated part of his game but yes last night it’s very clear if he isn’t replaced in this system we might as well give up. He is always available for the ball off the CBs, Slater was terrified hiding behind Barry Banana. Macca was decent last night shouldn’t have come off.
