I think there's a few positions we need depth/improving in but broadly agree that there's nothing to suggest the experience we have in the side - Seri, Coyle, Allsop, Traore and now Sharp - isn't enough.
I'd be happy to see experience come in on the field, billy Sharp is a step in the direction, I'm almost certain LR wont be bringing in any experience into his backroom staff.
The game is never over with only 2 goals in it and over half an hour to go (despite 10 men) - especially when you’ve got Delap in your team!
I think Liam had given up and wanted to rest his better players there doesnt seem to be a better reason
If we're honest with ourselves,we'd have struggled with 11,trying to get something with 10 was always going to be a bridge too far. Up to the point of the sending off we'd looked out of sorts and lethargic anyway.Yes,the sending off was dubious, probably warranted a yellow but it was a pretty reckless challenge and these sort of challenges can have the ref swithering at the best of times. After that we were all over the place and they were swarming at us...We got our arses felt,it happens!!! We've got some good players in this squad but we've also got some dead wood, let's see where we are after the transfer window and let's see if we can recruit some serious, gritty players who can help us mount a serious, consistent challenge? Are we good enough for the play-offs at this moment in time? Probably not, and even if we did manage with this squad it would be a major achievement/miracle.It would also require a huge amount of money and a huge overhaul to give us even a squeak at survival in the funny money league!!! Good travelling away support today, respect to those lads n lasses, they've spent their cash and were short changed.Spare a thought for them and their predicament of getting out of that cess-pit in one piece.
I think that's a really harsh characterisation. We've seen at the top top level in football how injuries can hurt teams. Man City's record with and without Rodri springs to mind and that's with one of the best gaffers in the world. At some point, you have to just admit that you need to bring better players in and there's only so far you can go when making do with what you have (which I think we've done well on the whole this year).
I dont want the likes of Delap on the pitch on Saturday... Birmingham will not be fielding a strong 11 in my opinion as they are deep in the mire and will (like us) be looking to their next league game. My fear even allowing for the Blackburn win is a visual draining of confidence in the team. Needs to be stopped dead in its tracks.
Yes we can and should always look to improve the squad that's a given, but, the top managers can and do improve what they have or if they realise the players they have aren't good enough to do what they want them to do/play the system the want them to play, then they adapt the system to suit. We don't have the financial room to just constantly buy, we need a coach/coaching team that can improve players as well. Yes injuries hurt teams and momentum etc, but We also can't keep blaming injuries season after season, we aren't the only team that gets them.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if we see a strong Birmingham team on sat, they desperately need wins and momentum and a win against a much changed hull team may kick start that for them.
