It’s not often you say it about this team but the desire and effort wasn’t quite there tonight. We were beaten by a far inferior team who simply wanted it more. Obviously the red card was a bad decision and didn’t help but if the application isn’t there you rarely get anything.

Shows as much as people moan about VAR, some form of its application is necessary in this sort of case where it has such a huge impact on the game.

And in the last 10 minutes the grafters took up the mantel and it looked more like we would score than them.

I never said this is the start of a downward slump btw, just want to make that clear...

And who knows what would have happened if the red hadn't happened z but unfortunately we can't go on if's but and maybes, the fact is the red happened, the reaction from both LR and the players was poor ( sheff weds, where the better team before the red ). We can't keep starting poorly and just hoping we finish better and score more then the opposition etc. we also can't keep making the same mistakes over and over without learning and stopping it if we want to progress. There is obviously progress since LR came in, but he's actually gone backwards in regards to keeping us tight at the back and stopping the mistakes, what's changed?

I sound like a broken record, but we need some real championship experience in this team, we have the young players with plenty of potential, but we severely lack real leaders on the pitch who know how to win games in this league, grind out results in this league, see out games and just be "ugly" champ players ( for lack of a better description ). We also lack experience on the coaching staff as well, go look at who's on our bench and what real coaching/management experience they have in the first team and championship environment.

If its just the case of bringing it new players, are you/we saying that LR and his staff aren't good enough to improve the players we have? Or being able to set up a team to suit the players we have?

Am I on my own here, I thought Allyhar, was great, looked fit, up for the run, why haven’t we been using him more? He looked fitter than the rest of the squad
He looked like the first talent we found

Im not disagreeing with any of that, except the bit about coaching experience.

Rosenior is obviously still very green, but has shown enough for me that he deserves more space when he gets things wrong. I think January is a major test for him, and we need to take stock and reorganise before the patchy form means more losses come our way.

Think he's had a few injury issues, thought it was mentioned last game that he was only just back to full fitness.

I thought he looked good today, maybe our local journalists can ask LR why he's not been given a real chance? Or is it a case he's just not been seen to be fit enough due to injury / knocks

I know I won't get a response to this, but the notion that managers wanting new players is a reflection they 'aren't good enough to improve the players we have' is rather simplistic. Every manager in the game is constantly looking to sign new players as well as improve what they have organically.

How can you disagree with the bit about the experience? It's not an opinion it's fact, LR, Dawson and walker ( who only got his uefa pro license this year btw ) are all very inexperienced coaches at champ and first team level.

Now I’ve had time to calm down:

    Positives:

Allahyar looked strong and determined. I’m hoping we don’t sell him and feel he deserves another shot.

Our fans sounded great - despite the poor football in front of them.

    Negatives:

Rosenior got his changes very wrong. The only one I agreed with was Docherty for Lokilo when Morton went off. However, this is the first game where I’ve really disagreed with Rosenior’s substitutions. He’s normally spot on (though sometimes a little late).

That was possibly Slater and Coyle’s worst game for us. Not the only ones who were bad, but we needed Slater to step up today.

We missed Seri more than I realised. Even though Seri has not been the player he was last season (though played well against Blackburn), we missed his presence and without him, could not string two passes together.

We went back to those ridiculous goal kicks. This just added even more pressure on us. It’s baffling.

Delap being subbed (it’s so bad, I’m mentioning subs twice). I would love to know the reason behind that one. Unless he picked up a knock, insanity is the only reason.

Sheffield Wednesday were getting past us and putting balls in so easily. We were lucky to only concede 3. They weren’t poor like some have suggested - they were very good going forward. That goalscorer looks a talent, as does Bannan (like always).

Morton was very negative and kept giving it back to the defenders without trying to turn. I think I remember one forward pass. Without a confident central midfielder, we were never going to get a foothold in the game. Obviously he shouldn’t have been sent off - football has gone mad if we don’t win that appeal!

    I think I’ll stop there.

I strongly suspect that taking Delap and others off was preservation and giving up on the game. I don't like it either - in fact I went back to bed at that point - but if Delap had pulled a hamstring or something else late in the game when 2-0 down we'd have all gone mental at risking him in a game we couldn't get something out of. He's also played a lot of football lately so not even about preserving him for the coming game but just giving him a rest after a busy period.

Im not disagreeing with the lack of experience, I’m disagreeing with the need to bring more in.

Enough good work has gone in for me to stick with what we have, especially now an ability to change things looms.
