"Tinpot" and "mean nothing" yet can't help talking about us. I've never had anything against Wednesday really, unlike their city rivals who have always had a nasty element. They're just another Yorkshire club, like Huddersfield or Barnsley, albeit with the typical West Riding arrogance
Good post this. Im of an age where I don’t really remember facing Wednesday before we got to the Championship under Taylor and Barmby aside, the fixtures didn’t really stand out for me even then. But then came the play off final and all I heard before the game was that Wednesday deserved to go up because they were in the Premier League in the 90s and had sold more tickets. They failed to grasp why we didn’t sell out and it was all remarkably patronising and entitled. I don’t really hate them, it’s just quite fun to take the mickey. Hope we win today.
I think that's the one factor more than any for a lot of our fans, considering the age of the fanbase. There's a lot who don't even remember that game in 2004 (which I found out to my horror during our most recent podcast ) They did have a good crowd there. You can't deny it. But the arrogance of how amazing they said they were, how they acted like they deserved to be in the Prem and the outright dismissal of why we didn't sell out just leaves a bad taste. Which is ironic considering the ****ty ownership troubles they've been through as of late. Then we played on the pitch and schooled them. And they've seemingly not been able to let it go. I do sometimes wish one of Scunny or Grimsby (the latter preferably) was a tad better and we played them more regularly. Would help having an actual local rival for once rather than relying on teams further away purely due to our actual rivals being so ****e.
Grimsby used to be much much better than us, riding high what’s now the championship whilst we were fighting relegation from div 4. Still ****s though!! When was the great escape season? Mid 90s?
First chance to see Morton and Slater as the CM pairing. Should be interesting. And we have a winger starting, and a defender at LB. Yay.
Maybe Allsop could come on and do what the Arbroath keeper did when brought on off the bench to play as a striker.
