just on the snide comments about modern parenting, that happened once to us but never a second time. I find it quite rude that grandparents seem to think they can say what they want. There's advice, then there's taking over. You've probably done well not to loose your ****e, especially with the red on the go. Sorry to comment on that specifically, but it boils my piss.

Family meal tonight for me . See in new year then off to bed with the match tomorrow. As many have said miss the old community spirit of going to people's houses for a drink bit of rice cake and cheese till the early hours. Now it's meal in and bed at just passed midnight. Have a great healthy new year folks.

I always remember when I was a little kid at New Year's Eve, to get me out of my mam's way for a bit, my dad would take me out to "see the man who has as many noses as there are days in the year. Here's me looking for a bloke with 365 noses on his face!!! <doh>

Not the same as when I was a kid at senior school in Westlea, Seaham. At local house parties trying to get New Year's kisses off the good looking lasses.

Now in my early 60's living in Redcar, I've always gone to the local pub for the live band ticket gig. Band starts at 9pm - 11:30pm

At 11:50pm they put all the TV's on, and the big TV screens to show the Big Ben chimes and the fireworks from all over the world.

Great night out, as the guests are a restricted number. The landlord and his mates are all big retired bouncers/doormen...

    Can't wait...

Happy New Year to you all guys!

    And Ha'way me bonny lads!....

We’re out at 6 with a couple of friends. Few drinks, curry booked for 9. We’ll see the new year in then head home. Done the same thing a couple of times. A nice night with the people you want to spend time with. This years been a **** one with a couple of nearest and dearest no longer with us now. Can’t wait to see the back of it!
All the very best to everyone for the new year. Let’s hope it’s a good one!

I never did anything as a kid, my parents would be out drinking so would stay at me Nana's who didn't really do new year. I even remember her saying to me not to open the door if anyone knocked to let the new year in, I was baffled as I had no idea what it was but also why would anyone be knocking at her door to do it (they never did).

Then even years when parents weren't out we did nowt, I got older and used to just use it as another night out. Best new years out was probably spent in Hamburg!

Recently the someone in wife's family will do a family party, they have always been into it so usually get together.

I'm still not fussed and have been sick as a dog with flu or something for past few days so can't see me going anywhere.

I'm the same overrated ****e! "Put Jools HHolland on for new year." "Why it's ****e and especially these days I tend to have no clue who any ****er is!

I think you and I are roughly the same age (I'm 38) and not sure if you are same as me but I could not recognise an artist or song from the last 5 years or so on 95% of occasions if asked to!

    Tell you a quick story.
Joules used to shoot on the Estate I lived on, Lambton Park.
On a big shoot day he got caught short for a No 2, dashed in to a Rhododendron Bush thought no could see him, but a young lass working her dogs came up behind him, she got a little shock when he stood up, he was so embarrassed, she said he had a tiny tadger, so at dinner he got the award for smallest cock of the day.

There was a time when it was good but it's embarrassing now, the 'witty celebrity chit chat' in between the music is cringing ...

... when Ruby Turner is the best act you know it's time to turn off.
