Live now on the news, a Japanese airline plane on fire at Tokyo airport. There is a fire fighter with all the safety gear on trying to put out the flames with what looks like a garden hose, it can't even get water up to the windows where the fire is. Hope everyone got off safely.
this is kind of weird, because i definitely remember people using they and them as singular going all the way back to the 1960s, particularly using those pronouns in cases when the details of the person was not known or when it was wished not to divulge the details. i still think they/them are the obvious pronouns to use when speaking about "someone". people talk about "addressing people with the wrong pronouns". this show ignorance and stupidity concerning the english language. people tend not to address other people with 3rd person pronouns, which is what all the invented ones are. most people use a 2nd person pronoun. i;e: you. when talking about someone, 3rd person pronouns are used. in that case, if i'm talking about someone, they should keep their ears out of the way and stop earwigging my conversations (though i do concede the occasional need to refer to people in the third person present during conversations involving more than two people). a lot of the invented genders stuff is just absurd. the number of trans people is such a tiny proportion of the population that statistics confidence levels thoroughly back up our usual subsconscious assumptions. the existence of trans people doesn't concern me (don't care - met just one in my six plus decades). the existence of activists attempting to push the debate down our throats and encourage children to believe they are trans does. and boys-to-girls converters (who have often changed nothing except their minds) should be kept ouf of women's sports. a meme i noticed the other day says "men are from mars, women are from venus, and all the other invented genders are from uranus."
friend of mine from sheffield recently tasted hull patties and asked if i knew of a recipe. i've found a few online, but there doesn't appear to be a standard one. does anyone on here make them, or do people just buy them at chipshops?
