My memory doesn’t go back that far but I accept your point. All I remember is the disappointment when seeing him play but maybe I was out walking the dogs when he was awarded MoM!
I think he was a better player than he was given a chance to prove with us. I remember those two MotM performances and thought 'he might just be a player', but it never worked out for him. I also think he suffered following on from Kyle Walker, both in stature and name. He's not the biggest or strongest - or as fast as his predecessor - so was always likely to suffer in comparison as a result. Not sure that he would have been any worse than Aurier, but equally I'm not sure he would be the best candidate for Ange-ball.
Or approach to RB was so ass backwards that season, as it made perfect sense to have Trippier as first choice and KWP as backup, or for that matter Trippier as first choice and sign Ricardo Pereira as backup - instead we signed Aurier meaning Trippier and Aurier both expected to start and KWP didn't get a lookin
