Another quiet night in for me.
Mrs will be in bed by 9.00pm, so might have a few cans of Guinness 0.0, hoy some music on YouTube, and try and make progress on this bloody impossible Sunderland jigsaw.

When I was kid it was the buzz of being around family.

When I was older it was being with mates.

When I was older older it was the town with mates

Now I'm older older older, worked the last 3 New years day, absolutely no new year magic. But for thoes celebrating, enjoy.

Same as someone else said, bit of buffet tea for kids and maybe some fizz with the Mrs. Older kids up at all hours anyway in school holidays so midnight no novelty to them. Hopefully can have a quiet couple of hours before midnight to chill. Have a good night everyone.

I've worked for various billionaires with lavish NYE parties costing millions, endless fireworks, acrobats, world famous performers, etc ...

... but absolutely shyte compared to that incredible priceless feeling of being part of a real community.

Been cooking a kilo and a half of brisket for the last eight hours and drinking wine while my teething toddler goes ballistic and my mum makes snide comments about modern parenting.

There has been red wine. It has been plentiful and delicious. I am going to fall over pulling this beef.

So many good memories of NYE/NYD, When the pub shut we would have a choice of parties. The Speirs, the Aspinals, and the Dunegans, and .go between each of them.

Such good times, drink tonight will be Krakan rum, and Proseco at midnight. Have a great evening today, and best wishes, and happy new year to you all.

Two lasses I know took over the Board inn, I had been looking for them for ages and when I found out they run it I drove over as soon as I could, walked in asked for them and was told they’d sold up a few weeks before and left. Still haven’t met up.

If not for sister liking the tradition of a first foot ( lives next door) and Jools Holland it would just be a night like the other 364.
Interesting how many others don’t bother , and have the memories of how it used to be . The family units going to each others houses in the street , then pub age when we went pub to pub , none of this ticket business, then round all the groups houses where parents were still up with company , all community stuff .
Todays just get smashed generation missing out on something that used to be special

It's not a big deal these days really, is it? You're lucky if you've got a good community to celebrate it with. Going out is too expensive and even the telly's garbage these days (and it used to be a big thing in Scotland - Only An Excuse followed by Still Game).

Anyway, it's in my front room this year. I might not go.

Steak pie is being prepared for tomorrow though :)

Me and the missus went up to Edinburgh for New Year once and it definitely wasn't what I expected. The pubs were busy during NYE day and absolutely heaving on the night. Then once the fireworks finished the pubs closed and everyone went home - I thought they would stay open a bit longer. They provided free buses to get everyone out of the centre and we went back to our B&B and started again on NYD. I think its one of those "been there, done that" kind of thing, I doubt I would go there again for New Year

Teatime drink, hopefully with a couple of friends (she had a heart attack a couple of months ago so they’re a bit uncertain about going out)
The wife will be in bed by 9. I’ll probably give 2023 the finger and go to bed at 11.
Happy peaceful and prosperous 2024 to everyone.

I'll be watching the fireworks on the telly followed by Jools Holland and his Hootenanny with the missus and a good bottle of Chianti.

In my youth I used to love New Years Eve and all the first footing, I remember one year doing the mini pub crawl in Houghton with a few mates, The Robbie Burns, The Britannia, the White Lion followed by a lock-in at the Golden Lion. Then on the walk back to Hetton, calling in at any house that still had their lights on, usually welcomed with a drink and a slice of pie.
    Those were the days.
