It’s criminal that with the possession we’ve had our creativity and attempts on goal has been dire.. just not happened for us tonight..
I feel we seem to want to walk it in.. a few shots outside the box to test the keeper would surely be an option

A point away is never a bad thing but based on the chances we created we should have won at least 2-0. The style of play is certainly different and better than in the recent past but we seriously need a true goal poacher and scorer otherwise the new effort will be wasted. Mehmeti missed 2 sitters today that a more confident player in the air would have put away and then Weimann was millimetres away from scoring right at the end. New Years Day against Millwall will not be an easy game and I hope that the tight schedule over the holidays doesn't have a backlash with the players getting tired. The substitutions under Liam seem to have more affect and make more sense but it will be interesting to see who happens in 2024. Happy New Year to all our subscribers. <bubbly>

Sunderland, Hull, Watford are all decent and tried to play which it seems suited us.
Brum are dire and for a home side hardly got out of their half.
I wonder if the Millwall game might be another dull affair.

That’s a hark back to the City of old. More recently we’ve had a pop from distance - something I’ve commented on.

we seem to setting up with just 1 " striker " Conway is 6ft 1" and Wells is 5ft 7" !!!! shorter than most! so will not get high crosses from corners etc on his head very often!

Is LM still experimenting? line ups to start / formation! That was his tenth game after 10 NP was on 15 points [ ave 1.5 ] LM is on 15 from 10 also. Keep these averages up and we will end on about 68 points.
For certain we need to up our goals for currently about 7 -8 goals short! of a top 6 teams position [ 6th! top 4 about 14 goals short! ]

I agree with your first comment RR.
Not sure about Wells but Weimann still has a part to play.

In watching the Notts Forest vs Man Utd game today I saw another goalkeeper who is so poor at distribution he shouldn't be in the squad and has just cost a goal for Man Utd. Max fits that same category and the commentators are saying it's the fault of the modern game in which goalkeepers are expected to contribute more to the game - what??? Whatever happened to the days when goalies just kicked the ball downfield from goal kicks rather then passing it a couple of feet which puts the defending team immediately under pressure if something goes wrong. I see so many times when the idiotic practice of passing a goal kick that doesn't even leave the 6 yard area putting the defender under so much pressure that a mistake is highly probable. Let the goalie kick the ball over the half-way line and then it won't put the team under unneeded pressure. Madness I call it. <doh>

I agree totally but we are called dinosaurs of the modern game, we followed the Europeans and football is so boring to watch now, bring back Murray, Tinnion, Galley, Goater etc

These days it’s all about possession, the theory being if you’ve got the ball the opposition can’t score. Just kicking it over the halfway line invariably gives possession to the opposing team. Playing it short also draws the opposition out of their defensive shape and allows you to exploit the space they leave.

I much preferred watching football from the Galley era right through to the Cott's era.
Watching Vyner and Dickie pass a 100 times to each other a game is proving difficult for me, whether in time I'll enjoy tippy tappy football only time will tell.

I accept that as long as there is an end product, reality is we pass it 20 times around our defence and midfield who eventually pass back to the goalkeeper who under pressure finally hoofs it upfield where it could have gone in the first place!
What really frustrates is when we have a short corner or attacking free kick that ends up with our keeper, should be finding the penalty area in that situation!

I enjoyed the football under John Ward.
I also enjoyed it under Cotts.
    It was Div 3 though.
In the Championship I’ve enjoyed certain individual games under all our managers but never a ‘style’.

In possession of the ball with ten metes of space and multiple options.

A keeper going long from a goal kick will put a team under possession - The opposition will gain more possession.

This is why we need a target man - even a defender who gets forward like Flint, Carey or Shaun Taylor used to - for breaking through those type of games where teams park the bus and are happy with a draw at home after packing their box with huge defenders.
Corners and free kicks against that type of team are almost worthless with our team of ballet dancers
