If there's a possibility of Burstow going back I'd imagine Beale would want to see him play before a decision was made.
Dodds changed things from one game to the next. It's not unreasonable to expect some kind of change, no matter how small. Even if it's 'see the West Brom and Leeds games - that's our setup to begin with' Surely as a coach you go into jobs thinking you can at least implement one simple principle quickly and with a minimum of coaching required. You don't just trundle on with the tactics that got the last bloke the sack. Every poor performance shortens what little goodwill he had on appointment.
If Beale's thinking was 'if he can't make an impression, against the bottom side, he can go' ... ... I'd have to say that playing him was the right thing to do.
Let's be honest you don't have a clue how it will work out, he might turn out to be not very good or he might turn out to be a good appt. As supporters you don't have the right to demand to be top competitors, that takes time they are trying to build the club without going into millions of debt again.
For the record, I didn’t want Beale, I didn’t see the point in sacking Mowbray and appointing someone like him. That said, I won’t be taking any animosity into the stadium, but I will speak my mind on here. I don’t think that by not allowing him to bring in at least his assistant (if that is what happened) will be a good thing. Most in that position have a confidante, someone to turn to, been with them for years (AKA Cloughie and Taylor, Ant and Dec, Fred and Wilma, Starsky and Hutch, Bob and Vauxie) No one can predict what will happen, but the good thing is we should be able to debate it on here without fear of someone putting you down. I also disagree with those that say things like, “ can’t wait to be proved right”. We are all SAFC fans and we want what’s best. Did I want Beale here? No. Do I want him to fail, **** no. I want him to rub his record in my aged, wrinkled bracket in a couple of years time, and him to say, “I ****ING TOLD YOU SO”. The personal stuff is unnecessary and not applicable either.
Some fans were against him from the start without any real reasoning. Now after every defeat they will continue to have a go at him. Just give the lad a chance and what he can do. Most didn't want TM but he did ok

We sacked Tony Mowbray not Pep Guardiola. The only name in the top 6 bookies list I’d heard of was Graham Potter, who we had no chance of getting. The one I preferred was the bloke at Nice(I think) and I can’t even remember his name,I’d only heard of him and read information about him on here . And I dare bet 95% of our social media supporters were the same as me. Whinging nar nowts.
Whether we like the appointment or not, it’s been made and is, as ‘supporters’ need to ‘support’ This desperation to discredit and dismantle the work done by the owners and KS over the last couple of years is pointless, it’s destabilising and it’s ****ing idiotic. We support the team, the club, the city of Sunderland. We are at a small crossroads but still moving forward. Let’s remember survival was the target last season now folk thing we should be pissing the league? Bitch and moan about models and young players and no striker all you like, facts are we are in striking distance of the playoffs with this setup and I don’t see fans of other teams around the playoffs bitching that it’s not good enough. The sense entitlement is awful these days. All fans have these types but I'm disappointed by how many of ours are acting in the same way. I honestly think if the Qatari government decided they wanted to buy us, loads of our fans would be all over it and boasting about how we'd spend millions to challenge them up the road. I'm sure even more would accept being Red Bull Sunderland and playing in an all white kit with red bulls if it meant they could support a club who were in the top 10 of the Premier League. It all starts by demanding your club spends money outside of it's budget to bring in new players because 7th place is too abhorrent for their fragile ego to handle. Then if that doesn't work, shout some more, spend some more or demand people leave so we can "have our club back" whatever the **** that means.
Exactly. This almost lusting after Mowbray is sickening. The guy had hit a brick wall and was all out of ideas. We didn’t progress this season with him in charge and it begs the question, did the players carry him last season? Beale is a highly rated coach within the game and has a had a fantastic pathway to head coach. 10 year at Chelsea. 2 year at Liverpool. Experience with Villa and a good start and job done with all respect to QPR a small (ish) club. He’s ready for this step-up, imo. Forget about Rangers. That is a basket case of a club. He went and managed them. That’s not his role. He’s a head coach and a damn good one at that.
Spot on. Sky money and I’d argue the high drama of its coverage has created a mess. It’s a great game to watch at whatever level. I even enjoyed last night even though we were crap for 60 minutes.
Living in Scotland, I was against Beale being appointed, for the reasons already outlined. However, when he was appointed, I wished him all the best, and hoped he did well. I’m now reserving judgement until he’s had at least 3 months in the job. If after that there’s no improvement, or at least attempts to play with strikers, then I’ll more than likely become vocal about it. In a nutshell, he needs to be given a chance. The constant moaning at this early stage in his appointment is not doing any of us any good. BART PS. He’s probably waiting to unleash his changes on the Saudis
Nice non-league club down the road from where I live. Conference South a couple of seasons back. Owner died, new owner came in. Club plummeted two divisions. New owner decides he's not interested anymore and pulls all the funding. Club is gone, finished. Fans are distraught. That's when there's something to whinge about. Not when a young, enthusiastic rich lad comes in and says "I'm going to run your club properly and by the way, the boss is going to be called 'Head Coach' rather than 'Manager'". As for "getting our club back" I'd rather be in our situation than be a propaganda tool for a dubious state.
Some perspective on last night. Aye we were ****e, but the best side I’ve seen all season is Leeds and they drew at Rotherham 3 weeks ago. Not the train wreck it’s made out to be.
You see the thing is mate, people are being told to give him time. You’ve dismissed the Rangers thing so the only role where he has been head coach has been QPR, 22 games isn’t near enough to be judged as a “damn good head coach” as much as it isn’t a barometer for him being a **** one. I knew nothing about the other candidates, I’m too old skool for this data ****e. I just think with Sunderland, a huge club with huge potential, needs a huge character. I saw someone coming in and giving the whole club a lift. Who is out there? I don’t know. What is the budget? I haven’t a clue. Those are not my remit, but I just felt that the whole appointment was a bit stale, even the mixed reaction throughout football told you that. Now like I said earlier, I go to the games full of hope, full of passion, I’m in my 60’s and my 29 year old son keeps having to tell me to to calm down. I can’t see me changing just yet, but I hope this blokes takes us up to the premier league. And hopefully by then, those black and white tossers have ****ed off with the other big knobs to some Super League, with plenty of skill on display, but with no passion and no real attachment to the footballing community whatsoever.
Yes, absolutely spot on this. Things could be so much worse. I think all clubs have fans with a sense of entitlement, but what surprises and disappoints me is how quickly some of our fans have forgotten. We spent a decade on the slide, 5 years in league One and because we're "only" 7th in the Championship and have appointed a head coach that wasn't anyone's first choice, the reaction is outrage.
There is a difference between mortgaging the club and taking a gamble on success and paying good money for 1 player in an area that is crying out for it. No one is expecting them to bring in 200million pounds worth of players. But perhaps 10 million on a forward that would give us a real chance of promotion is reasonable, especially after selling Ross Stewart. I like the way they are running the club and the model. But we haven’t had a forward score in nearly a years worth of football. If they don’t invest in 1 in January, It will tell us they are either ignorant or low in ambition.
