It’s a really hard balance as if a couple of deals don’t work out it can set the whole club back at least a season. If it works out it can jump us forward a season provided the whole squad is ready for the jump.
You can say that about any deal though. We will.never have a whole squad ready for the jump to the premier league, there will always be players we hope will step-up, some who won't and will need replacing. I do find anyone even suggesting spending money or having a different opinion to "everything is great" is jumped on recently.
But the model has worked for us, weve gone from a boring L1 team to an exciting championship team that isnt far from the PL Has the recruitment got everything right, of course not but no recruitment team get 100% of decisions right The model has got us in a better place now than we were in before hand so its been a success
Personally I don’t think there anyone against our club on the whole forum. Great place to post and voice opinions. There’s a good argument for spending a bit extra to get promotion as the payback is huge. Needs KLD to be willing to take a bit of a gamble and double down if it doesn’t work at first attempt. FFP doesn’t make it simple maths but that’s what you play all the back room staff a good wage for. With top two spots pretty much tied down I don't think we would take the gamble purely for last playoff spot. Time would be next summer if going to give that route a try. But ultimately it’s KLDs choice as he’ll be ponying up to do so. If we are just a couple of players shy of a really, really good shot at promotion then I’d love to see the purse strings loosen enough to give it our all.
And hopefully that’s not contradicting my earlier post! A bit of discipline and player development to get us close and then when time is right a couple of wise investments to get over the line.
I totally respect and appreciate that and with 40k fans week in week out its no more than we deserve so im not going to bow down to anyone at our club. We currently have 4 strikers that cant get a game and have zero goals between them. Thats a concern to me.
Its a concern for us all, i wouldn't say the model is to blame for that The signings havent worked at the minute, that happens at times The thing with this model is that itll take time for us to truly see how good (or bad) it is We are signing players with big upside and hoping most achieve close to it Its also not about bowing dwn to anyone but its about acknowledging where this model has taken us so far
Totally agree. Cirkin, Elise, Ballard, Ekwah and Clarke were all not in their respective first teams at their former clubs, but every one of them has been a success at Sunderland. KS will sort the CF issue one way or another. Let's see what happens during the transfer window.
Cant find a link to the table produced but if we are 4th lowest on actual spend then it may be based on some historical accounts which is more likely our salaries before handing out a few upgraded contracts. If it were 4th lowest salary to revenue ratio then that would make more sense as our revenue will be one of the best in the division.
Weve signed 2 strikers from a B team and one from an U23 team despite spending the whole of last season without a recognised striker we are no further forward?
I think you will be disappointed if you expect a ready to go striker turning up in January. Would be a huge change in approach amd wouldn't be cheap
Weve signed some good players from B teams tho, fair enough the strikers havent hit the ground running. Weve also signed a 24 yr striker who has played in european competition as well tho Strikers are by far the hardest position to sign n scout for now More youngsters want to play as wimgers than strikers these days so out n out strikers are like gold dust
Yes we have, where is he then??? Putting the ball in the net cannot be done by signing B team strikers from other countries if we have any ambitions to get out of this league. Neither were even prolific for the B teams they played for either
I agree, which is why I don't think we will be spending a fortune to make it happen. I can see us shipping out one or two on loan and use the loan market to bring someone in who can hit the net on a fairly regular basis. All this will be going on while our coaches work their magic in trying to improve our current forwards
Yep and thatll be half a season wasted with zero fire power, so lets borrow a player from another team in Jan. Pretty embarrassing really for a club of our size.
Langstaff scored a first half hat trick. Warnock says ‘I’m shocked a championship side hasn’t snapped him up’ You and me both big man…
