Actually, there have been a few. Ipswich and Norwich away this season, most the games under Shota particularly at the start of last season. But the point stands, it really was that bad.
Watch it again with the emotion taken out of it. We weren't exactly schooled. Tepid first half but they scored against the run of play second after we'd missed the best chance of the game and Patterson had saved well from both Delap and Morton. They only really tested Ingram once before they scored, and the goal in itself was down to individual error from round pegs in round holes. We've played better, granted but we've played worse and still won, but that's not what I was replying to. You said he was rigid and wouldn't try anything different. I gave you an example of him doing exactly that in a game you've just watched but not picked up on, and it's worked to an extent as well. Thank me later
When the 3 relegated clubs are all in the top 4, there's very little chance of promotion, they've got too much money and are too strong. We've just got to be patient and wait for a season where the relegated 3 struggle, at least partially, and it blows the league wide open.
This is a good post. Rosenior has always been good at making the right substitutions and picking good lineups. For me, it is the slow play which hinders us - and usually leads to the opposition scoring first (as I’ve mentioned before). I think I checked recently and it is 9 Vs 14 for that statistic. Once we go that goal down, we turn it on because we have to, then we look like the side we are capable of being. I also think we have a good set of players and good squad depth. Maybe just a winger and goalkeeper needed for this last push. I know it’s not the right thread, but Rosenior has also signed good players for this level. The idea of him not having that ‘pull’ is incorrect. Getting Philogene and Delap and Morton on loan is an incredible feat! He is already becoming well-respected in the game (thought I’d get all my thoughts in one post). Anyway, if we are fast and brave against Blackburn, there is only one winner. Delap being central would make this so much easier. Like the Sunderland game though, we must score. They have Szmodics, who will not have a quiet game, given the form he is in. Looking forward to tonight. UTT.
Thinking about it the only two recent managers I didn’t want sacking was Brown, shocked by that, and Bruce, who resigned, and even though Rosey, as pointed out, has a similar record to Brown, his playing style is chalk and cheese to Browns, I was never bored and had thoughts to stop coming to games. I knew from about 10 mins v Sunlan we was going to lose, I suspect most did, it’s anti football he plays, he needs to get another training manual cos the one he’s got has pages missing.
I was talking to a well respected ex city player yesterday, and even he doesn't rate rosenior or "his",style of play
It's not really 'his style of play' anymore is it? Half the league are playing a posession style and it's filtering down to non league too. He's just the first doing it at City. Won't be changing if Rosenior gets sacked either. They'll just bring in another with a similar philosophy. Games moved on.
And that’s fine, not everybody will, but there are plenty that do and he often gets plaudits from the media for it.
Well you and him better get used to it because the owners have pretty much stated this is their philosophy in play style
Good for you. So what about the respected ex players now actually employed within the game who are actively promoting it and seeing success at all levels of the pyramid by implementing it - despite 'were not man city we haven't the players to play that way'? I can understand resistance to change, but it is ex players that are almost exclusively behind it.
I’m not convinced …is fashionable atm, but is it effective? If another club went old school & had success with a 442 & hoof ball got them promoted, many clubs would try to copy that style. This possession based game is a fad & will die out in a few years, to be replaced by the next “tactical masterclass”
Luton pretty much did. Hasn't stopped more and more teams adopting it though. And yes, the game will evolve again in future. As it always has in the past. And future old farts probably won't like it either.
Thought it was funny reading the replies to a Burnsy tweet the other day about Grimsby doing it. All their fans saying yeah it works at Hull but that's the Championship, you can't do it with the players at this level! Which of course is exactly the same thing people say at this level "Man City can do it but not players at this level"...
You’re not wrong. Football has gone through it before. This replaced the counter attacking football made famous by Wenger, Ferguson and Mourinho in the mid 2000’s. That’s the beauty of the game being that there’s many ways to skin a cat
I've been watching Gateshead win conference north playing exactly that way and challenge for the playoffs a division up within a season and a half. Probably one of the smallest clubs in there too.
