Clearly the issue this season is squad depth or lack of.

Eddie clearly having to do with a lot of inherited players. Some he’s managed to develop, some he hasn’t.

lots of talk about FFP stopping us buying in Jan but don’t we now buy over 5 years so the actual hit is less on the P&L?

and with PIF inheriting a clean balance sheet with little forward debt for players doesn’t that factor itself in over a 3 year period?

Just got a feeling that there is a lot more wriggle room than some think.

Lets see what happens when we only have to play 1 game a week rather than 2-3.

It was always going to be gradual, this was the case when the money came in at City and it took several years to phase out the old guard and the squad to become solid all round....FFS I remember for a while after the money came in and Stephen Ireland was their best player!

We saw some immediate removal of the obvious **** in Jan 22 and last remnants will be phased out over the next 2 windows... obviously this is slower than City did due to FFP.

Not so worried about the current state, huge injury list and a dip of form....but now players back and new signings to be made. **** periods can happen, remember Liverpool losing every game around Jan/Feb last season?

This is why I always said top 8 was a reasonable expectation.

No you said that cos you're a message board troll constantly trying to wind others up by saying we're going to fail at everything.

No I just got it right and unlike yourself haven't moved the goalposts. I've explained this to all season.

You constantly move the goal posts - you start with saying last season was a fluke and we'll be lucky to get top 8 this season, you then started saying we wouldn't get into the top half, and then yesterday apparently we were the next Everton and would never get into the top 4 again.

Going alongside this apparently Villa are the next Man City, despite them being dogshit yesterday. This is understandable apparently cos they lost to Man U, who was you say are "improving" despite taking 1 point from the last 4 games prior to yesterday, and being slaughtered in the first half.

There isn't currently the wiggle room because we're still dealing with awful results from Ashley's stint. This Summer might see that start to change and I think we'll see significant change at the end of 2024/25 season when all the Sela, Saudia, Adidas, Noon, etc., money gets on the balance sheet properly.

I think I read the club's "worth" over £700m (Forbes magazine). 130% change in valuation in just two years is insane. So the progress is absolutely meteoric, even if the direction and destination was already known.

I'll always maintain the business last Summer was the biggest **** up of the regime so far. By MILES!

Notwithstanding the poor due dilligence on Tonali, buying a backup LW, RB and LB is 100% NOT the way to go as a club. You always, always improve the first team first and only turn to younger backup if you can't strengthen. Howe made a massive error in being too matey, putting too much faith in things like loyalty and work ethic instead of ability, and it's massively backfired. That he looked at Almiron, Longstaff, Schar, Burn, Murphy and Wilson and decided we simply couldn't improve on any of those is a massive misjudgement. I'd be astonished if more British plodders were signed in January as although Howe may not lose his job, what he has done is put a huge dent in trusting him with money.

Lol so in other words I have been right so far!

Unfortunately you have been wrong so far mate so maybe it's time to focus on yourself instead of chasing me around mate.

No you've talked total ****, there's quite a difference between that and being right.

This conversation started as a result of you quoting my post and saying "this is why I always said....", please don't use my posts as back up for your lunacy, as they do not back it up.

I said top 8 and you said top 4 and argued with me until you were blue in the face, so I'm afraid you were wrong by the looks of it all season.

This is why you will be supplied a username and avy by myself isn't it ?

Nah he let me carry on , but regardless Charlie did spend all summer and until now chasing me around explaining why Newcastle would be top 4.

We all get things wrong myself included but he even made a bet so if he just admits it I'll probably just let him off anyway.

No, I said we had a chance of top 5....was admittedly before the recent bad run, and less likely now, but not out of the question with half the season to go.

You said the best we can do is top 8 cos we'll go to **** and we'll never be in the top 4 again. You then change this top 8 to 8th-12th, then not being in the top half, and then yesterday deciding we are the next Everton. There is no point arguing with what your prediction is, because it constantly changes, and you probably don't even know yourself what it is.

Top 5 while chasing me around for saying top 8 at best and we will soon see who was right and it doesn't really matter anyway.

If I say top 8 would be the best we can hope for that comment unfortunately doesn't rule out anything below.

Let it go and stop chasing me around it's not going to make Newcastle finish top 5 mate.

I'm not chasing you around - you started this off when you quoted me in this thread, trying to use what I said as back up for your point, which it had nothing to do with.
