Good Morning. It's Wednesday 27th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Preston stun 10 man Leeds

Leeds recent bad run of form continued yesterday, as Liam Millar's 89th minute winner gave Preston an unlikely 2-1 win over ten man Leeds.

The (Leeds) players may have been the same, but the performance was a far cry from that who ripped apart Ipswich Town just three days previously. They have struggled against sides defending in numbers this season, though when all said and done, the stats show that the Lilywhites had the lions share of opportunities.

After a drab and uneventful first half, the game burst into life on 53 minutes when Illan Meslier was given a straight red card, after retaliating to a double hand shove by Milutin Osmajić. The Frenchman used the palm of his hand to push the Preston forward face first out of his vicinity, causing him to spiral into an acrobatic reverse 4 1/2 somersault.

Had he performed the feat from the 10m board of a swimming pool, it could have earned him a respectful 7.3 from the judges; but was more than content to see the Leeds shot stopper dismissed from the field of play.

Four minutes later, Preston took the lead. The hosts had got the better of Archie Gray all afternoon, and used the space to deliver a dangerous cross into the heart of the Leeds penalty area, where Browne was on hand to guide the ball past Karl Darlow. In all honesty, the former Newcastle man should have done better. It was reminiscent of his previous performance in the League Cup where he managed to avoid all nine of Salford City's spot kicks.

Leeds regrouped, and with seven minutes on the clock won themselves a penalty; but with Summerville and Piroe already substituted, had to rely on Pascal Struijk to grab his fifth of the season.

Even with ten men, the visitors went in search of the three points, but were undone after Preston once again highlighted Leeds inadequacies at right back. Millar danced past Gray before unleashing a thunderous strike into the far corner of Darlow's goal.

The defeat leaves Farke's men trailing in fourth, after Southampton's 5-0 rout of Swansea. They are three points behind the Saints, and eight behind Ipswich Town, after their last gasp equaliser against Leicester City last night.

Do Leeds have full back problems on both wings

Leeds looked tired, lethargic and disjointed yesterday. They were prone to mistakes, and shy in the final third. Their away form in the last six games gives cause for concern. With seven points from a possible eighteen, the Whites have slipped to 10th place in the (away) form guide, scoring (and conceding) five goals apiece.

Daniel Farke has some difficult decisions to make when 5th place West Brom visit Elland Road on Friday evening. Is Djed Spence the right fit at left back? Since starting his first game of the season (at the Stadium of Light) just over three weeks ago, he has won one, drawn one, and lost two!

Similarly, whilst Archie Gray exhibits supreme fitness, his Anaerobic levels are clearly suffering. The 17yo has exceptional cardio, but when it comes to short, fast, high-intensity bursts of pace, he is found wanting, and this has been exploited in recent games. Gray was clearly targeted by Jack Clarke (Sunderland) and Liam Millar (Preston) to expose Leeds frailties at the back.

If that’s a red card the sport is done

BBC Sports commentator / journalist Rob Staton was incensed by Illan Meslier's sending off at Preston on Boxing Day.

The Sheffield based journo took to Twitter to express his disbelief after the Leeds shot stopper was sent for an early bath after pushing Milutin Osmajić in the face after being shoved himself. Staton, a Wendies fan was quoted as saying:-

"If that’s a red card in the Leeds game, the sport is done. Pack it up and let’s go. The number of people defending the red says it all. The game’s gone. That should be treated with a ‘grow up and get on with it’. What are we doing here?"

Morning and a belated merry Xmas to you all,

Preston had a game plan yesterday and the ref totally fell for it. They were fouling and kicking us all game and were allowed to get away with so much.

Eventually one of our lads falls for it and retaliates, stupidly despite how soft the lesson player went down, and we are down to 10 men.

It says a routine collection for the keeper, why did the first Preston player need to push him in the back and why did the second one need to fly in?

The ref could have stopped it very early in the match if he had started giving more fouls or yellows.

Obviously that is not the only reason we lost but it is a major talking point.

( it's ironic as well that this was the first time I can remember meslier choosing to catch the ball instead of punching it and he gets sent off in the process)

    We deservedly lost yesterday.

Farke needs to sort this away form out or he'll be gone.

Morning all. look we can all go back and say this and that. End of day we were Shyte yesterday did the team need freshened up maybe, but if you were one of them players playing Ipswich and then end up being dropped/Rested would you be happy? I wouldn't for sure.
We have been in these games before where teams high press us to a point we can't turn then when we do get the turn around the object of the opponent is to foul/block basically anything to stop us getting any momentum. Some of our players don't like it Cry,Georgi in particular look they are fab players but they don't like it when things aren't going there way Cry at times yesterday just stopped when he thought he was fouled. my only criticism of him don't just stand there with your hands in the air play to the whistle get on with it win that ball back. we have alot of players who don't like the hussle bussle we have to be braver at times and give back what we receive we look a easy touch in physical games and Ive even seen some players shirk that 50/50 ball.
Lots of blame on social media for Young Archie yesterday which is unfair yes he had a tough game but teams look for weaknesses and see Archie as a weak link at R/B. this window we have to sort it. either play Firpo or Byram when fit at LB and get Spence back at R/B or go get a L/B and get rid of Firpo.
Yesterday we were just not at the races because the game was not played to our strengths and teams are picking up on that. breathe down our necks don't let us turn and be very niggly and try to get away with everything till a yellow card is shown.
We are still in a great position I'd put my house and kids on us finishing in the top 4 but we need to learn to play the dirty side we have alot of pardon the phrase "pussies" a few out there just don't like the physical side of the game.
Meslier was just a complete idiot but you block out that sort of stuff don't let it get to you. Was very theatrical from their player but that's how the game is now any chance of an advantage they will do it. they actually get told to do it. Not happy with him being the only culprit though there were 3 involved in that incident and two got away scot free if your sending one off you have to yellow card the instigator as he made the first move on Mes for him to retaliate.
I'm still well pizzed off today coz some of them challenges got unpenalized yesterday the foul on Dan James late on when he was already on a yellow was another yellow. Ref's need to be more consistent. I understand it isn't easy but some are blatant to see.
We deserved nowt yesterday and got nowt so I'm not complaining. but that game will happen again and it's now down to the manager to make sure we have a different approach as it wasn't good enough yes the red didn't help but to be honest we actually played better once we went down to 10 we were Outgunned,Outbattled, outmuscled and got what we deserved fook all.

Thought we deserved a point for the way be battled back with 10 men and if Archie Gray grabs his man and takes the yellow card then we'd probably have got it.

    Naive.

    Morning all

The problem is we've got a CM playing right back and a striker playing CAM. We need to sign new players starting on Monday.

I'm assuming that Ayling and Dallas won't be playing for us again. Firpo looks like he's going back to Spain. Spurs wants Willy from what I understand.

I get the feeling from Farke:s interview last summer that it's a multi year plan but if we keep playing badly against the likes of Preston and Wednesday we're going to drop out of the top 6.

Mes shouldn't have reacted yesterday. He's now looking at a 6 match ban.

You can tell by the way Meslier was standing that there was absolutely no force in his face push

So whenever we're losing, which is usually away from home, Farke switches to a back 3.

    The question is then;

should we start with a back 3 away from home and see if that works the oracle because what we're doing now is clearly failing to bring the necessary results. Or maybe the answer lies elsewhere like playing 3 genuine midfielders ?

The thing is he shouldn't have done it in the first place. Force or no force.

Peed off and a shambles of a Xmas for Leeds. Yes a fantastic performance against a shell shocked Ipswich but losing points left right and centre to dross is embarrassing. You cannot cover incompetence and I will be FARKE out if he doesn’t get this sorted. Southampton the big winners this Xmas because they won their games

    Morning all

Meslier is leaning backwards so it isn't a push, it is a put your hand out to protect yourself, if the player wasn't coming towards him there would be no contact, Meslier stood his ground, he did not step forward. Letter of the law that needs looking at, let's tell our players to run towards the opposition keeper in an aggressive manner and when he puts a hand out to protect himself from a collision go down like a sack of ****

My best friend and his wife are coming over for this afternoon and evening, we can go threw a bottle of rum in this time, so looking forward to that, and finishing off the evening with a few games of poker :1980_boogie_down:, however he's going to be grinning like a cheshire cat all evening, being a fanatical Southampton supporter. :emoticon-0114-dull:

Meslier was an idiot. He knows the rules of the game same as everyone. He was barely touched and had the ball in his grasp. Just hoof the damn thing seventy yards up the field and give Preston something to defend. At one point in injury time we were close to their penalty area and after several touches we’d passed it back to our keeper. Mind you saw the same ****e in the villa scum game in added time too.

But it's ok for mes to be pushed by two Preston players, is there different kinds of pushing that gets different punishment from the refs?
Mes should have punched the **** right in the teeth and made it worth the red
That **** referee couldn't wait to send one of ours off.
