I've watched our game back and the glaring thing, as I said in the dying moments of the game, is that our players are miles apart.

If we want to be doing this death by a thousand passes routine, the players need to watch teams that are actually good at it.

For starters, Seri and Morton need to be up and down the park constantly. Morton was, but Seri just isn't mobile enough and it's allowing teams to just walk through our midfield because they aren't being closed down. Out of possession, we need to hunt in packs and close the ball down, not just walk around expecting the opposition to make a mistake or, worse, the defence to deal with it. Our midfield needs to be dynamic and I've said this from Day 1, it's just too slow. For all the flair in the world, Morton doesn't put a tackle in, so having him and Twine and Tufan (who to his credit has started getting stuck in) and Seri means that nobody is trying to win the ball back and we just get mowed through when out of possession.

I know Seri is a great footballer, but he just doesn't work in this type of set up. It was like when we had Thudd; if you're playing him as part of a 4-3-3 with him as the sitting midfielder, it's not too bad because there are two other midfielders working alongside him. Play him in a 4-2-3-1 and there's only one other guy to help out. He's a quick passer of the ball and has great vision, which sort of brings me to my next point, which is...

When we pass, the ball takes a ****ing age to get to where it's going and that's because the players are far apart. Get them in closer, the ball doesn't have to travel as far and you can press forward much quicker. Even the ball across the defence is slow, I'm surprised there aren't more interceptions from the opposition.

Sky Sports recently did a mini documentary of Fabregas coaching at Serie B side Como 1907. They play a very similar style and he outlines exactly how that style of football should be played. Very fast tempo, players confident enough to take on opposition without fear of losing the ball. That's clearly what we're trying to do, we just don't do it quick enough.

Sounds kinda nerdy, but something I say to new players on the video game I play (a first person shooter) is that one of the first things you need to learn is "anticipation without hesitation". Don't wait for the opposition to do something, make them do what you want them to do, dictate the game. If you know what your opponent is going to do, you don't need to adjust what you're doing because 99/100 times they'll do the thing they usually do.

For me, in January, the left back situation needs sorting out. Either James Furlong isn't good enough, which is baffling because he hasn't been in the U21s AFAIK and he hasn't played for us either, despite us using everybody else we possibly could there, or Liam favours Coyle there. I assumed Coyle/Christie/Greaves played there because we had no other options and it was temporary, but I'm starting to think there's a tactical decision behind it. Forget Vinagre, great player, but if we're serious about promotion, he can't possibly be first choice. Still think Derry Murkin would have been a good signing, but he went to Schalke instead. Ridvan Yilmaz isn't getting much game time at Rangers, get him in.
We said this all summer about us needed a combative midfielder but Rosie didn’t think we needed one. Seri’s legs have gone and he’s holding us back now. Slater needs to be playing next to Morton or we need to sign someone else. Marc Leonard at Northampton/Brighton would be my pick.

Did I hear LR intimate that we'll be in the market over the window for a few additions? On the evidence of Bristol and Sunderland we need a couple, or else the Play off charge will peter out. Left back is a problem. Christie isn't good enough and My Cousin Vinny never plays....Plus a new body in midfield to replace a tiring Seri....On Harry Vaughan, when he comes on, I'd switch him to the right because he's no use on the left.

I think Lokilo needs to start, he looked gash when he first came on yesterday but he warmed to it pretty quickly and was getting some decent ball into the box come the end. Also can't have the likes of Traore and Vaughn on the bench for 88 minutes every week, too wasteful.
It's been said that the target for this season was a top-10 finish, if that's the case surely Rosie can be a bit bolder, let players off the leash he seems to have them on and take some risks. Blackburn at home on Friday could be the place to start.

Neither side had that many chances, Delap looked strong and was our only main threat, Down the middle Connelly apart from a couple of weak shots didn’t do much and Twine was no threat. Philogene was sorely missed and for me would have made the difference. We obviously need a left back but a strong proper centre forward with Delap and Philogene along side him would cause havoc in this league.
Delap should be starting games as a centre forward he is young and powerful with pace. Wasted out wide.

Johnbo, you couldn't get a stronger proper centre forward than Delap.... England dont play him on the wing....!!!
I know he’s a centre forward but he’s strong and skill full enough to play anywhere across the front three. I said at ht it’s not working get Delap down the middle basically not because he wasn’t playing well but because the other two were no threat what so ever. At the moment if Delap gets injured or his off his game we don’t have a good alternative. Get another centre forward in to do this. Play Delap down the middle or wide. If we want to move up to the next level which Delap and Philogene are then we need a bit more.

We could continue with the Rosenior way and get Billy Sharp playing on the wing!?

I know he’s a centre forward I’ve seen him play well enough in that position. Yesterday proved he can play anywhere because he’s a quick strong player. We didn’t score yesterday when he was wide or down the middle not because of him but the other two were ineffective.

The left hand side is a problem full stop when Jaden is injured. What we can or can't do in the January window may well be the difference between a sustained play off challenge and dropping back to mid-table

Maybe just a little bit to slow. How did you rate Delap performance yesterday out wide?and let me say once again I like him as a centre forward.
Delap does well on the wing but he'll never be effective like he can be as a centre forward

Has anyone analysed Clarke's goal yesterday, there's been very little mention of it?

The lad took his goal well but our defending was slack and he got his shot off very easily with the minimum of attention!!!

Should Clarke have been allowed the space he got?,Should our back tracking midfielder be standing motionless watching Clarke prepare to get his shot off?,Should our keeper have been positioned better and got a hand on it?

It's all well and good banging on about Delap on the wing,Conolly scuffing a decent chance and Seri prancing around like a ****ing ballerina but when are we going to look at the real reason we lost that game yesterday?

Our defence is as weak as piss!!!

It could have been defended better. But you can’t ignore all the good blocks etc we put in during the game. I thought the back four did pretty well for the most part - even Slater!

Just my point Pete, I know and like him as a centre forward, I think some on here think I prefer him on the wing when I don’t. The point I am trying to make is if a good centre forward became available then Delap is more than good enough to go wide or alternate.

They are paid handsomely to defend for 90 minutes.Clarke got that shot off far too easily and the game was over, earlier attempts in defence counted for nothing,we need to work on stopping opposition players cutting inside and getting shots off unchallenged?
