Of course he would be on around now, it is like 7pm there or something! I know LA is his team but when they had Lalas that did it for me in terms of any respect for them, then they brought Beckham in and basically took tons of money from the MLS to bring him in and I thought it had a hidrance on developing our own youth as things like the reserve league went, pay was cut, etc.

The average MLS player makes something like 40-50K a year...... Carroll wipes his ass with that type of dosh.

The tail wags the dog over there.

The MLS players should go on strike for more money and choice and freedom of movement between clubs.

It is crazy. A good friend of mine was Div II player of the year 2x, goalscorer, creator, etc. Cracking player. Gets drafted by Toronto and in his first year due to make 40 k , doesnt have to pay for housing and car is sorted ( no mercedes but hey free car!). Gets up there, sits down with the coach and the first words out of the coaches mouth " Who are you again?" He had to tell him his entire career and the coach was writing it down.

That is just one example of many of just some of the dumb **** the MLS does. So why did you draft him if you didnt scout him or know who he was!!?!?!??!?!
Another mate who I played college with got picked up by Kansas City, his annual salary? 15 k a year........ This was about 3 years ago I believe.

The first time Liverpool approached Bill Shankly to become manager he refused because the board refused to let him scout and buy players that he wanted, many clubs in 50's and early 60's here did things that way,he eventually became manager after assurances he was in complete control of football matters.

Its like the MLS are doing a similar thing over there 60 years down the line.

Ya, we have our faults but we are still a young league and mistakes will be made along the way. It is what it is and changes will be made, salaries, when the league is played, relegation system ( although that will be a tough one as that is viewed badly opon here).

It's almost criminal how little some of these players make. It's gotten a bit better, but it's not very good. A few years back someone on the galaxy, don't remember who, also cleaned pools during the summer to help pay his rent. A lot of players end up rooming together or if they play locally they live with their parents because they can't afford to live on their own.

The MLS is just worried about having teams with wealthy owners, or just owners who care, take over the league, like a few leagues in Europe. The Salary cap needs to be raised along with the minimum salary. Up until recently no MLS teams had youth teams either, so it is/was quite hard to produce local talent. I know the Galaxy now have a youth academy and 16 year old Jack McBean, actually got to play against City. (He burned Savic too, Savic would have got a red for being a last defender if it was a competitive match, and scored his first goal for the senior team against Houston earlier this year.)

MLS isn't there yet, but I'd imagine in a few years it'll be fairly decent league.

Thanks for this Bluff a most comprehensive round up <ok>

I'll consider all of the above (except for the Frenchies obviously). I think you may have over estimated my powers of rational thought unfortunately as my criteria for choosing a team is more likely to be based on something like....the fact that one team (Phili i think) are sponsored by a firm called Bimbo...now that's the sort of thing that could really sway me <laugh>

Hey man, Phil-ade have a nice stadium, good crowd ( sons of ben would be compared to Anfield road), Peter novak is a good coach and they are sponsored by a mexican shopping store. Safe.

btw, I was wrong ( although I swore Bimbo was a mexican shopping center), Bimbo on this side is a bread company!

What are you going after? More warmth? Cost matter? want snow and ice etc?

Don't do snow and ice unless the ice is in a glass of Whiskey (although obviously I'd love to see the Rocky Mountains). Holidays for me are either great, atmospheric cities or, warm weather, beaches and Bimbos <ok>

Well that takes away anything North and centrally now does it! Was going to say if you are a snow and mountain type of guy Denver and Boulder Colorado are excellent ( fat Tire brewery there as well, good stuff). Boston is a good city, loads to do in beantown. LA is nice with all the Hollywood stuff but for me, San Diego is the tits. Always a 70's range in weather and you have beaches and lots to do, very clean city i think. If you go to Florida, many say Miami, but I quite like Tampa a lot as well, Orlando doesn't ahve the beach but there is lots to do there ( Universal theme parks, disney). Sacramento and San Francisco are cool out west. Also if you do enjoy skiing and snow, Stoke Vermont is a top top place for that ( I know you said no, but throwing out options).

I also hear Cincinnati is a top place......

Thanks for narrowing it down mate <laugh> I went to Chicago on my only ever trip to the States and loved it (fecking cold though). Love the idea of San Fran much more than Miami or LA I think. San Diego sounds cool too. Cheers <ale>

I think San Fran and SD will be your best bets, San Fran might have more culture I guess you could say but San Diego is really nice as well.

Hey, I am just giving the options, we do have 50 states and loads to see!!! Miami and LA will rip your pockets to shreds as well and other than the places you hear about, are pretty grimey.

I still hear Cincinnati is a good place..... cold though and the snow shall be falling soon!

Yeah much appreciated <ok> Would love another trip over sometime in the near future...I think San Fran would suit me (fell in love with it due to my addiction to the car chase scene in Bullit).
