We are all Geordie Sunderland fans. Apart from my brother who is a Geordie mag and therefore the disappointment of the family.
I tell them all the time that they’ve got season card holders from Peterlee, Easington etc. They’re mackems, to me.
Can’t understand why you believe that someone from CLS or Washington aren’t Wearsiders, despite them being born on the banks of the Wear. If they choose to support Newcastle then they’re simply Newcastle supporting Wearsiders. Same as you’d have Sunderland supporting Tynesiders.
Having been supporting the lads for 60 years so can remember before all this “makem” nonsense started, I’ve always considered Sunderland AFC a County Durham club
It's an identity and some will eschew it, ask a Newcastle supporter from CLS if they're a Wearsider and they'll be either say no or answer in a way that is unclear, this is because Wearside is unambiguously linked with Sunderland in the same way Newcastle is with the Tyne.
You'd do better if the map actually included all of the river Wear in the section you class as being Wearsiders
Newcastle fans from CLS or Washington can say whatever they like, but if they’re from CLS or Washington, then they are from Wearside, simple as that. They may not be happy about that, but that’s just tough. The day the Wear stops flowing through these places then they may have a point, but until that happens then they’re simply in denial.
I was born in Sunderland General, live in Sunderland, I'm a Mackem. My mate was born in America, been here since 98, loves Sunderland, calls him self a Mackem because he supports Sunderland. Another mate, born in Penshaw, lives in Washington, mad Newcastle fan. My Point, why the f**k does it matter? This "adopted Geordie" ****e is just that though, ****e.
Yep. Fatfield lad here, anyone who's says I'm not a wearsider is deluded. It's as deluded as Sunak saying Rwanda is a safe country because he passed a law to say it is.
Supported the lads for 60+ years, born in a Borough of Gateshead, dad was from a Durham pit village and a Sunderland fan and me and my five brothers followed his passion. Never thought of myself as a Geordie, was that an actual thing in the 40s/50s, class myself as an adopted Mackem, tho exiled for a quarter of a century now. There's always been a rivalry between the club's but this Geordie Nation thing is just ridiculous imo.
