The "Trench Foot Summit". Excruciating symptons that won't go away. Many buckets of freezing water required to separate the dogs of war.
But still doesn't account for good positions where the team failed to get of a shot off at all, or where the final ball meant that a shot didn't happen. So it's useful but flawed, like many stats.
It’s not flawed though really because it might miss it on the odd occasion where this happens, but if this issue continues to happen then clearly there is a fundamental issue on the training ground that’s stopping those moments from being taken. Every top club uses it now, so it’s clearly not a flawed stat when assessing performance over a long period. Ours is ever improving now over the course of the season.
I have no way of knowing, but I have a hard time believing that clubs, with access to every metric we could possibly think of and many more, would pay much attention to xG. It's just so high-level that it can only really be useful as a simple indicator for people who don't have the time, access or interest to look into the detail. Which is pretty much what Syd was talking about to be fair.
Well they definitely do use it. It’s not high level when assessing performance over a period of time. Take Bournemouth for example, they were consistently doing well on xG so their recent run of form was going to always happen if they maintained their performance levels. Same with us when we draw games, 9/10 we win that game but we don’t. Plymouth, Coventry, Watford all spring to mind this season alone.
