Fairytale ONY will always be my favourite Christmas song but this comes a very close 2nd How true are the words of the 2nd verse
Welcome aboard! Where's 'up here?' I am this site's resident Damned correspondent and I need to know all the details... Currently, the Mrs and I are in for London (x2), Southampton and Brighton...plus Stone Valley Festivals South and Midlands. There may be some additions, but we're waiting to hear what gives on Rebellion and Euro gigs. After this year's no show at Rebellion, there are rumours that the boys aren't going to make good in '24. It may be something to do with Stone Valley North happening the week after Rebellion and how they are a lesser draw in Blackpool as a result... In any event, the rumours of more new material (a covers album?) and a full itinerary at home and abroad, mean that we're in for a fun packed year! May the 'Anarchy, Chaos and Destruction' last forever!
Nottingham. I live about 8 miles away so I'm at the Rock City gig on the 9th December '24. I was lured in again by the reappearance of Rat! Saw them years ago when I used to live in London....
The reunion shows confirmed that The Damned aren't the same force when Rat's not behind the kit. The return of Paul Gray and Rat has brought people back, like yourself. It promises to be a great year ahead. Bring it on!
Yes, my memory is hazy but I am sure I saw them when he wasn't there. Totally agree though, got about 4 or 5 gigs in the diary next year but that one at the end should cap it all off!!
What else? So far, I've got Echo & The Bunnymen, Elvis Costello and Hard Fi on top of The Damned gigs. Yesterday, it was announced that Guilfest is back after a 10 year hiatus and what now constitutes The Stranglers are playing. That's pretty local. Also the 'Lust For Life' outfit with Clem Burke, Glen Matlock and Katie Pukrick are also doing somwe stuff and my annual pilgrimage to see The Teenage Werewolves.
Oh a very eclectic mix! Starts in January with EMF then in February back-to-back gigs to see (like yourself...) Echo & The Bunnymen and the day after that OMD. June sees me and the missus at Pet Shop Boys then October I'm off to Peter Hook & The LIght. Final hurrah at the moment is The Damned on the 9th December. No doubt more will be added as you can't beat a good live gig...
RIP Laura Lynch , a founding member of The Dixie Chicks. My step-mum is a huge fan of them (and all types of Country music) from the very beginning. Only 65, she died in a car crash. Thanks for the memories.
I looked at going to see ABC earlier this year (Mrs B and I used to play a tape of The Lexicon of Love in the car, back in the late 80's/early 90's). The tickets were well over a hundered quid each!!!!!! Every band has a price that I'm not willing to pay (well, The Damned might not...)...and ABC came in at over double my ceiling. Gigging is like football was when we were kids. You can stand and drink and there's no VAR!
Hahaha so very, very true! I did look at ABC when they came up here but the cheapest was well over a ton, so like yourself, it was a no go for me. Even if the Lexicon of Love was one of my most played albums back in the day. Still love it to this day. Another band I've missed seeing is Depeche. I had a chance in the 90's but for some reason never attended. A bit like that Live Aid ticket I turned down as I didn't quite fancy it... I would love to see them play but again the prices. Oh that and only 2 original members left. Having said that I did pay nearly £100 to see Kraftwerk up here a few years back. I had seen them previously at the Brixton Academy in the early 2000's and that was one of the loudest gigs I have attended! Nearly as loud as the Motorhead on I went to the Hammersmith Odeon way back in the depths of time.....
Merry Christmas by the way, you have certainly stirred the old grey brain cells with some of these comments....
The other reason for not paying the price of some gigs is the venue , I went to see pearl jam at the O2 , sound was iffy but worse of all our seats were so high and far back that I watched the entire show on the big screen, by the time I had had a drink and something to eat, travel that was close to £300 , I could have brought a DVD for a tenner and got a better view
