I don't think you have ever said anything more true, if arrogance and entitlement in fans were attributes needed to win the league Leeds would win by a country mile
Does this mean Leeds would struggle next season in the PL given you're still 7 points behind us despite beating us twice?
Whisper it quietly but.....I don't think they will get the chance to find out!! Our style of open attacking football suits Leeds and maybe it will suit Leicester but others really struggle with it!!
The reality is that the vast majority of teams that go up to the PL struggle with the step up. The gap between the Championship and PL is bigger than ever. If you go up and don't spend then you go straight back down but lose the better players you had. If you spend £150 million then you have a chance of staying up and maybe finishing 10th - 17th but better hope 2nd season syndrome doesn't hit because after spending that amount, relegation means financial problems. Maybe back to league 1 and Derby County/Portsmouth/Leeds/Southampton type situations of the past. The football pyramid is broken and to be honest it's a little surprising that some Ipswich fans don't understand it after playing in league 1 for a while. To be honest, I love to watch Ipswich play. They are a refreshing side to watch. In a perfect world I'd like Ipswich to finish top 2 with us and go up automatically.
For me, I think yesterday showed that as great and ruthless as we have been this season - there is understandably a large gap when we play against teams with a higher standard of quality. Eight goals conceded in two games against Leeds shows that our Plan A does not work against them - and may likely not work against Leicester and Premier League teams, until we invest further. I think we showed a Plan B when we beat Southampton away, although we rode our luck in that match. Leeds blew us away. Our passing and movement was nowhere near as good as it has been and I think that was on how Leeds played. They ripped us apart on the counter in that first half. Gotta hand it to them. My fear is Leicester will be a similar experience on Boxing Day, but at least we’re at home.
The difference is Premier League money. One of your key signings was Leif Davis for £1 million. The PL money allowed us to spend £35 million on Rutter as a youngster that wouldn't be 'ready' for PL football for a year or two. The pyramid is broken.
I think the occasion got to a few of your players yesterday, apart from a short spell in the first half you were second best all over the pitch, lots of unforced errors too, which showed a nervousness in some of your team. Your manager will need to work on that for Boxing Day, I've seen Leicester a few times this season and even when they're not at their best, they don't need many chances to score, you'll need to be much better at the back and tighter in CM to get anything from the game.
how come we are only third then!!!!!!! new years resolution, must be more arrogant, entitled and scummy in 2024
We could be 4th by new year, Southampton's next 2 much easier than ours. Entitled bastards, coming down with us taking our 3rd spot
Under the current financial deals I think parachute payments are necessary to stop clubs going bust when they get relegated. That's just further evidence of the pyramid being top heavy. It needs fixing. The Championship is not a level playing field. Ipswich are at a massive disadvantage compared to Leeds, Leicester and Southampton. Your club are doing a fantastic job and under normal circumstances I'd be rooting for Ipswich to upset the division and go up. However, my loyalty is to Leeds and I'm hoping the financial clout gives us the advantage to see us get back up to the PL. Doesn't mean I agree with it.
I think we give Leeds too much credit. - this was their cup final. Leeds fans have told me the atmosphere has been flat at other games - they scored an early goal and then the own goal was a sucker punch - we dropped Woolfy so we were a defensive shambles - Clarke had clearly been on the piss all week - we tripped over the ball and couldn’t string two passes together - the ref was abysmal Some credit to them, they did play well, but on any other day the result is different.
Its either 8 or 9 games crammed within 33 days, just because of these damn International breaks. That is going to take its toll any ANY team with a smallish squad. I
Our cup final?? Wasn’t even aware of a rivalry until reading this thread. And in fairness it only seems an obsession on your fans part. Can honestly say I think nothing of Ipswich except you’re now promotion favourites so seeing if we can catch you. Have a very happy Christmas
