A new GCSE is to be introduced, for BSL (British Sign Language). Great idea in my opinion and I would have loved to have been able to do it myself, as someone who was born with a hearing impairment. I’m still a bit miffed with a company I worked for that put a colleague through the training for this, without giving others the opportunity to apply. I do find it odd that sign language isn’t the same internationally and that each nation seems to have its own version.
BSL is on my 'to do' list. I have perfect hearing in my left ear and wear an aid in my right. I can easily get by without the one in my right, but it give me a more stereo sound and I can hear directions of sound better. I really want to learn BSL, not because I need it (hopefully wont), but I know how it can be not to hear and think it would be really useful.
Saw this play long ago. Really amazing performance by lead. The signing was really powerful … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_a_Lesser_God_(play)
If you enjoyed that you might enjoy the Miracle Worker, about a girl (Helen Keller) who was blind and deaf. The original film was made in 1962 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Miracle_Worker_(1962_film) There is a later version, that I haven’t seen but will now look for, made in 2000. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Miracle_Worker_(2000_film)

I was at Stanton Drew yesterday, along with over 300 others. It’s much nicer and more personal than Stonehenge. We always celebrate the solstices and equinoxes on the 21st, regardless of the astronomical dates, as it’s easier to remember!
More than 10 years since I finally lost my mum to that bastard **** of a disease. That brought it all back, music was the last thing she lost. So moving, thanks for sharing Richie.
