My lad was gutted When we sold him. Said to him then. If he ends up injury prone it's a good deal and the club are making great signings anyway. Who knows, we may of gone up. Him going certainly had an impact on us. Good luck to him, hope he gets fit before his contract ends. Meanwhile we're still in a good position pushing for play offs again.
He did score against our U21s before that. I'm gutted for the lad - he helped get us out of League One and will always be remembered for that goal at Wembley.
Their fans aren’t happy asking why they signed a crocked player etc but that just shows how difficult it is to get someone of Ross’s calibre. Definitely worth the risk for the low fee if they could get him fully fit again. Best of luck to the lad.
I also think he would have signed a new contract with us if he hadn’t been injured so badly. He’s hopefully looked after himself with the contract terms…I think he knew it wasn’t right and might have a knock on effect.
I can confirm that Iain messaged me well beforehand. I can also confirm we've been secretly laughing at the totally predictable comments from people using the sale as another excuse to attack the club ... ... I doubt many will come back on to say they totally misread the situation.
A salient reminder that young players living the dream can quickly see it become a nightmare ... ... it's never knowing if you'll recover properly that's the hardest to cope with.
“Here lads, give us 10m for the best striker in the league,” “Aye gan on then. Will he play again?” “aye.. (whispers “maybe” if our board had done this deal, can you imagine the furore!! Ridiculous really. We obviously have a canny captain steering the ship
I know you've said that in jest mate but in reality it's probably very close to the truth. Stewart was fit enough to pass the medical at Southampton at had been back on the training pitch, however the club would have all the data on his recovery, his pre injury data and I believe there were concerns, the club would have kept this to themselves, which resulted in us getting a hood as well as looking after RS by him getting a really good deal knowing there were chances he might get injured. The timing of the transfer window also helped as Southampton had to take a chance before the window closed
I hope he recovers and gets a move to the PL because in my opinion he’s ready for it. Excellent goal scorer but it’s his none stop work rate and movement pulling defenders all over that sets him apart from your average decent player.
Another situation where the podcast boys and all the haters give the club grief for not offering him a bumper contract. Keep spouting your negative nonsense and the club will ignore you and keep moving the club forward
It’s always baffled me how another player in the squad hasn’t just watched him and does the same thing to improve, are footballers really as stupid as fans make them out to be?
This is what worried me when it looked more and more like he was going. You won't easily replace that! As it turns out his injury means he isn't as much a miss as he could be. Can that be learnt or is it natural?
Yeah as tongue in cheek as it was, it was done with a slight serious tinge! But this board, social media and every SAFC outlet would be in meltdown if we’d signed him in this state. Fwiw, I am truly gutted for the lad. Dud look a cut above for us when fit. Think we’d have gone up automatically had he not got injured last season. “Them’s the breaks” as they say
Remember when we signed Niall Quinn and he did his cruciate and was out for a decent spell. There were rumblings then. He recovered quite well though. Hopefully LND goes on to have a decent career Just not against us.
I think Southampton knew what they were potentially getting when they signed him. Class when fit, fitness very very unreliable. Too many false starts with him. Absolutely no ill will to him, but we simply couldn't have sicknotes sapping up money for nothing anymore.
