All of our current top 5 would walk straight into most of the EPL teams, IMO. That's fantastic, when you think about it. Imagine if we have RvP! We'd be title contenders.
Anyone wanna do the stats? Quote taken from the BBC: "Tottenham's entire midfield was bought for £40 million" Parker - £5 million Modric - £16.5 million Bale - £10 million? Lennon - £1 million VdV - £8 million (if included) That makes £40.5 million. Silva and Toure cost more than that! I think City have by far the best midfield in the Premier League (by far the best team in my belief). But I think that, in comparison with the other top sides (Utd, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal and Pool) ours is by far the strongest with greatest depth. Utd's midfield is begging for the come back of a 21 year old! (or however old Cleverly is) Newcastle have a good midfield, but lack that real world class quality Chelsea's midfield is ageing and some players are distinctly average (Ramires, even Mikel) Arsenals' midfield has dropped in quality with the same of Nasri and Fabregas Pool's midfield - Lucas. That is all..... Our midfield has a lot of depth. If not Parker, we got Sandro. Kranjcar, THudd, Pienaar and Giovani are all good players.
Bale cost £7m in all, Lotak. He was bought for £5m with an additional £5m in add-ons, but we renegotiated with Southampton because they were skint and needed the money quickly. The extras were paid off for £2m, apparently. Spurs midfield cost marginally more than Andy Carroll.
Ahh right. I remember 5+5, but didn't know about the reneg. That is actually quite funny. Those 5 cost significantly less than Torres! They play so well together its incredible. Some of the movement is so fluid. Just need to get rid of some of those sloppy passes and need that final killer ball a bit more often than we have done it over the last 3 or 4 games.
I agree with that, Lidls. You don't get any prizes for doing well til Christmas. If we can make a couple of canny moves in January, then we should be well in with a shot at the top 4, though. Anything else is just too early to talk about, in my opinion.
I don't think any Spurs fans really believe that we've got a real shot at the league. Whilst we can, we don't seem to blow away teams a la Man City. Would love to see Spurs beating teams 3-0, 4-1, 5-1 than 2-1, 3-1. I personally think its 2 from 4 teams to take 3rd and 4th. Chelsea aren't quite that force that are just about better than the rest of the trailing pack anymore. They are within said pack along with Spurs, Pool and Arsenal (and Newcastle). Could easily be Spurs and Arsenal taking 3rd and 4th spot given current form. But its still too early to say. Lets just keep this run going. Best deal in history has to be RvP for £2.5 million.
Obviously ours midfielders are in demand Ens, but to be fair, only God and maybe Simon Cowell could afford to outbid City.....
I love watching Spurs mid, to me we are the best team to watch in England. I admit I'm biased, but who cares, not me. The football we play is supreme ATM. How I wish we could replay that home game with City now.
I, too, love the way we play. Always have. And, at the moment, we are playing the best I've ever seen us play, and I used to watch spurs play in the early 70s. Yes, City have some expensively assembled players, but I don't think their midfield is better than ours. Certainly, I wouldn't swap any of their players for ours.
To be honest me too, you are the most exciting team to watch, people often say Arsenal or United play the best but Spurs do (hate to say it though ). Harry has always been criticised for not being as tactical as a lot of managers but this proves that wrong. Perfect squad balance.
