Always loved Elvis presleys voice, heard this for the first time on Desert Island Disks ( a programme I rarely miss) this morning , thought I would share
I didnt realise it lasted so long but it is a masterpiece in my mind first heard Elvis back in the fifties Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog etc, been through a few phases since then but still think he is an unparalleled talent. On an aside went to the Roker Cinema to see "Love Me Tender" in 57, with "Hoggy" and couple of "chicks", Happy Days.
He could have been so much more if not for Tom Parker. Barbera Streisand wanted him in the A Star is Born and he was to play the main role in West Side Story but the Colonel thought it would spoil he's new image after leaving the army. Instead we got formula movies which stiffed he's creativity.
Hated his film career as I am sure he did, went right off him tbh., but still understood what Lennon said that before Elvis there was nothing although like most of Johns comments it was imo illustrative rather than accurate.
On the last day of college me and 5 other mates ( we were inseparable) bought a punnet of strawberries each and went and sat on the river Wear bank below Dunelm house in Durham and listened to this record on our radio.
