As soon as Trippier came up everybody - except the manager apparently - knew he’d miss. Likewise Ritchie. I suspect Howe is delighted they showed such “courage”.
All managers have favourites from school teams right upto the Premier league. The likes of Trippier will be here well beyond his best and so will Wilson just like we're seeing with Ritchie. Wilson is now a good finisher but otherwise he's finished and Trippier I suspect this is the end for him. Emery would've sniffed out the crap like Lascelles Ritchie Murphy dummett and longstaff in training immediately and btw he also uses his squad.
I wonder why Emery turned us down? Genuinely, what was it here he didn't like? This FFP stuff is ****ing horseradish. We spent £120m in the Summer - taking Hall's £30m fee out of it - and Villa spent £90m. We came into the season with a squad that finished 4th, Villa finished 7th I think? 7th + £90m, 4th + £120m. Yet Villa have Diaby, Pau Torrer, Tielemans, Lenglet and Zaniolo in their squad. We have Barnes, Tonali, Livramento and Hall. Almiron, Longstaff and Burn were still in our "best XI". Seriously what the **** is going on?
I suspect the project he was shown just wasn't as exciting as the one Villa showed him. There's something about this takeover that doesn't seem right and I wonder if the Saudis are more focused on their league. The clubs went from steaming in saying we'll win everything in 5 to 10 years to saying we hope we can be a top 6 club regularly.
Thought we were unlucky last night tbh. Bar one individual error (again) and a couple of shocking pens we were tight at the back and nicked our goal. My increasing issue is though, honestly think Howe is trying to make some kind of point but not sure what it is. He's not making the right subs at the end of games! Hall for Gordon earlier on, then Ritchie and Dummett for Almiron/Bruno/Wilson and go 5-4-1 in injury time no, he refuses to make the subs despite being in the midst of a ridiculous injury crisis where players could do with any kind of extra break they can get. Genuinely can not figure out why Howe feel's we can keep plugging away with the same formation (that's was being battered for the entire second half) when there's options available.
If he's trying to blame the squad then he needs replacing.. he's been backed to the value of 500 million and the problem is the players he's got available it's that he doesn't have them available due to something 'he' is responsible for. I personally don't think he's trying to make a point I think he's just one of the guys that keeps ploughing ahead with his philosophy.
I don't know what he's trying to prove atm but despite them not being the best players if you bring on 2 bodies at 85-90mins it kills the game by slowing things down and we just sit in and see the game out. If we'd had a back 5 of Trippier, Lascelles, Burn, Dummy, Tino I don't see us conceding that goal in the last min. Bruno is running himself into an injury, Almiron was barely visible in the last 15 mins, take them both off and solidify the defense (that we were sat back on anyway) and inject some freshness to things. Could just be poor management in that he doesn't think the changes will help the team but it's several times now we've been backs to the walls trying to see out a game only to concede very late with substitutions still available to us.
We were back's to the walls and defending for most the game, A sub wasting 30 seconds would have just added stoppage time. Only options left were keepers and kids, other than Hall. Always a risk it could go to penalties so idea being you put your best penalty takers on. Wilson being lead taker and Ritchie being the previous lead penalty taker to him. Tripps has always been decent at penalties too.
He's just made an arse of it mate and prefers to not use the bench to close games out. I mean If it works great , but it hasn't. Next season we'll kick on.
It breaks the momentum and kills the spirit of the other side. Change the keeper , go down holding heads and do what every other side would do... once it went to pens Chelsea had far better players and keeper. Newcastle are useless at the dark arts as proved minute 1 when they didn't go mental following a disgusting red card offence.. not even the captain put pressure on the ref. Passive. Howe should have been going nuts. It was an absolutely shocking challenge. The other side were ****s.
He had no difference makers on the bench available, we had no midfielders, wingers or strikers. Bench was all keepers, full backs and Alex Murphy. Nobody that was going to get the ball up the pitch and keep it in the corner which is what we needed last night to run the clock down. Every time a sub is made the ref adds 30 seconds to the time. What I will say, which I thought was insane was just hoofing the ball long weather it was through the middle or up the wings which just kept coming back time after time after time again, and Tripps was guilty of that more than anyone.
I don't agree because the players were exhausted. Were talking minutes so freshness and just killing any momentum would've got the job done... Well we'll never know now. Alex Murphy from what we've seen is actually a decent player. I'm fully aware he'd add time mate but it's a tactic commonly used and Howe isn't a fan of it.. the problem is that he's not doing it and newcastle are continually conceding late goals. I know mate I think the players are just burned out like Leeds were under Bielsa.. Almiron for example tripped over the ball because his legs went from under him last night.. I think we are in for a bad run until February. I hope im wrong mate.
The one on Krafth was a red aswel, but not easily seen. Oh and Gallagher but If he got a yellow from the dive it's unlikely he'd have made the next foul.
It was always going to take time especially with ffp. This often gets forgotten after a game like this. As for the two types of fans there actually are plenty who are somewhere inbetween.
This is the biggest concern. Our tactics away this season have been awful. Away from home the high press is just not there most of the game and we just pack the defence.
Get your point but 4 of the last 4 mid week games (7 conceded) we've played we've conceded 6 in the last 10 mins (+ stoppages) and three of those in injury time so regardless he's got to try something different as it's a clear issue that we don't have the legs to go the full 90 with the players we have: PSG (0 subs) - 98' Everton (2 sub) - 79', 86',96' Milan (3 subs) - 84' Chelsea (3 subs) - 92' That's 8/20 potential subs used across those games - Lewis Hall can't be that bad he can't come on for 10/15 mins and add some energy into the fold, he can't be that bad it's worth putting Ritchie on ahead of him. The young players who are forced on to the bench aren't worth taking if your just going to sit them there all evening and not give them any time at all, why bother taking them at all?
With some respect, you have precisely no clue as to what Howe thinks needs to be done. Doing it all in a few windows is what's impossible.
Erm... We started as much the better side, knocked it about well. We scored, and then defended that... After the goal it was a hard watch, with a patched up team, half of them absolutely ****ed. Nearly got away with it too. The game plan was, clearly, after we scored - keep it tight.
