By that metric, we should've been carpet bombing West Belfast, South Armagh and East Tyrone back in the 80s... Do those figures give Israel the right to indiscriminatly slaughter innocent children with being accountable for their actions? No-one is disputing the fact that Hamas' actions were abhorrent, but the systematic ethnic cleansing that the Israelis are carrying out is even starting to turn American stomachs
Don't think the NI comparison works, because who is "we"? If UK, we're all the same country, not foreign aggression by an independent state. The point for me is that, most impartial commentators do, as you say, condemn the utter savagery of Hamas in initiating the present round of conflict. Some then say, "But what have the poor Palestinians done to deserve counter-attacks?" The answer is that 75% of Palestinians support the barbarity of the Hamas attacks... so if you give it out, you're gonna get it back
I think if you'd carried out a poll along the Falls Road in the early 80s (but not in an English accent as you would've been disappeared) they would have said the British Army WAS the foreign aggressor and they were pushing for an independant state. Not disputing the fact that Israel has a right to retaliate, it's the scale of the retaliation and the collateral damage wrecked upon Gaza that I struggle with...it's a wrecking ball to crack a walnut. And before you ask... no, I don't have an answer to it bar cracking a few heads together and telling them to sort their **** out which ain't gonna happen. The whole thing is a clusterfuck and is playing right in to Irans hands...the Houthis are already starting to bomb ships and threaten Saudi Arabia, and Hezbollah are waiting in the wings for their puppet masters to give them the green light.
The expansion into the Red Sea is certainly concerning as Iran fights its proxy war. I’d say Hamas is more than a walnut, but of course it’s tragic seeing children die or be buried under rubble. The problem is that as soon as Israel back-off, Hamas will rearm and prepare for the next unspeakable attack on Israel. Andrew Neil is right. There is no answer in the foreseeable future, perhaps not this century.
And another one - Miriam Cates is being investigated by Westminster’s standards watchdog over claims that she caused “significant damage” to Parliament’s reputation. Not sure how it's possible to damage Parliament's reputation any further than this lot have already.
