I enjoyed the story of Joan Desboro, the oldest ever mascot, who led the Barnsley team out before their game v Charlton this weekend. She’s 90 and has been going to Barnsley games since 1937. At first I thought she shouldn’t be denying some kid the chance, but when you saw her enthusiasm, grinning broadly from ear to ear throughout and lapping up every second of it (it’s like a second childhood at that age, isn’t it?), you couldn’t help be happy for her. This is what football is really about. No Saudis or VAR in sight.
Decades ago I took a picture of a gator in the Everglades that was across my cycle path as I was heading to some off the beaten track observation post. I was very close and took it with a standard lens. People seeing the photo are astonished how close I would have had to be. What you don't see from the photo is that the gator was not even 30cm long.
Many moons ago on a holiday in Florida we went to a Disney nature reserve island and my son who was about 4 at the time wandered off and we had a panic finding him, found him after 15 mins and only when we got back to the UK and had the the photos developed from his camera did we see that on his travels he had come face to face with a fairly big alligator and in another shot had found a snake eating a large frog
Looks like there is a new plan for a European Super League with promotion and relegation. Given that many seem to think UEFA and FIFA are corrupt would people find us joining this one acceptable?
What fresh hell awaits, a big no from me , football has been ****ed about too much by the money men for my likes, I had this discussion with a mate who is a season ticket holder at the lane and he is ready to chuck it in if this goes through even going as far as to never watching Spurs again !!! To that I called bullshit knowing him as long as I have, but not going to games I can easily see happening , we already go to see our local club when Spurs play away If Ange can turn the fortunes of Spurs round it will be massive wrench but to not keep up with the pack would be financial disaster that I'm sure Levy /Enic would not allow to happen
It is the pompous, greedy Europeans of football striking again. They do not like the financial success of the Prem which they cannot emulate to the same extent. I listened to their description of their proposed league structure and got totally confused as did the guy on 5Live. It appears they want all of their games live on TV. And the Financial returns from that. With regular away games only the very wealthy will be able to travel all over Europe to support their teams. The famous prawn sandwich brigade. This would be the death of live football as we know it. I hope the powers that be have the balls to tell them to Foxtrot Oscar.
This is entirely true, but it's basically just Barca, Juve and Madrid. They can't handle being the top dogs exclusively and eternally. The G-14 sides are all involved too, but more as followers than leaders. The Dutch and Germans seem to have absolutely no appetite for it whatsoever.
I think the new CL format would be a good template for domestic leagues too. All 96 clubs in the PL and EFL could be put into a single 16 round Swiss tournament to be played before Christmas with the top 12 then qualifying for a mini league with 22 fixtures to decide the Champions and trophies for the winners of each further group of 12. This should level things up as there wouldn't be a massive penalty from relegation from the top tier while making more matches meaningful.
Spurs, City and Chelsea have all made suspiciously similar statements on the Super League. Position hasn't changed, commitment to ECA and UEFA, etc.
RIP Wilf Lunn , the madcap inventor from the TV show Vision on , he came to our tech college once and gave one of the most inspiring lectures I hope he is somewhere inventing some kind of daft exploding device
Not for want of trying though. If other leagues were far more equitable in their distribution of earnings based on viewer numbers, final table placings etc they would have a good chance of usurping the PL.
According to my Steam wrapup, I was playing a lot of Football Manager between February-June Hmm, wonder what could have caused that...?
Looks like I'm going to be busy tomorrow, apparently I'm cooking for 12 and we have just as many coming for lunch on boxing day May I wish all my fellow Spurs fans a Merry Christmas and seasons greetings , let's hope that Ange is on the nice list and he gets all he wishes for from old Ebenezer Levy Mines a Melbec, cheers , COYS
