now, the last time i tried one like this i ended with wonky wheels and glue prints all over the cockpit...think that might be why i gave up on them, me and 'fiddly' do not mix.
It wasnt too fiddly this one due to its size. The wheel supports (stanchions, legs?) on this one had a thin metal rod sandwiched inside the two halves to give it support. Works really well, and the wheels still haven't moved. The cockpit screen, I dipped in clear floor polish...makes it look like glass. It was then masked over till everything else was finished. When it was completely finished, the last thing I done was remove the cockpit and exhaust masking tape.
I did get all the kits down from the loft. There was a lot more than I thought Bought quite a few more too lol. Lidl had them for £6.99 recently then all middle aisle 50% off so bought some more for £3.49 They also had the revell victory, titanic x2 and mayflower. All with glue paints and brushes for £20. Sold out of the victory, i was going to buy it , just one of each, titanic and mayflower, went back for the titanic but both gone I've bought those headset magnifiers with lenses and lights lol. As well as sprue cutters, model knives etc etc. Did the Mary Rose starter kit up at the caravan and started a hurricane. Might finish it over Christmas and do another. It is enjoyable and therapeutic, especially as I get the black dog and have done badly this year .
I used to love making them, as people say, very therapeutic and I like doing the precision actions on them. I've got a couple to build I'm saving back, including the eagle Luna lander, as I don't want to start them unless I'm in the mood to make sure they get finished.
I had to Google what black dog was....never heard that before. Hope all is ok mate.... got to be honest, that was one of the reason's i started doing them, though it was by accident more than a conscious thing. Just found it took my mind of things....zoned out in my own little world for a few hours. With all the stuff I had going and dealing with at the time, it done me the world of good.....still does. I seen that lidl had them in again. I was tempted to get the Mayflower one, but I've got that many to now I really don't need another one.....might have a look in tomorrow, see if there's any left. Couple of weeks ago I was passing a charity shop and they had a Tamiya tank in the window, so went in to ask how much it was and to see if it looked like all the parts were there. It was new, all sprees still in the bags....£3. The old lady who got it from the window asked what it was as the box was very light. Told her, and she said there was more on a shelf. Sure enough, there was 7 in total, x5 at £3 each and x2 at £2 each. Bought the lot for £19....absolute bargain. I reckon I've got somewhere in the region of 20 or so to do, but not had much chance for the last 6 months or so. Last one I done was a Revell Routemaster London Bus. Beast of a thing....came out great though. Post some pics when you've done some mate....would love to see them.
I understand the black dog, I've suffered from depression in the past and had some counselling to help me deal with it. Now I recognise the symptoms as they start so I can deal with them much better (avoiding alcohol is one of the things I do, it doesn't help me in the medium to long term). Having something I'm interested in to focus my mind helps loads, maybe it's why I get into so much about football, but I've got a load of other hobbies as well. But once you get something that helps you zone out and focus it really helps deal with depressive episodes. But I digress. Probably the model kit I'm most happy with is one of those wooden ones with the precut pieces, a dragon. Specifically a Chinese imperial dragon. It ended up do good my dad used to have it displayed as an ornament in the family living room for years, especially after it was varnished. I still have it now. I might put some pics up later of it and others I've done.
Excellent post, and so pleased you posted it. Hoy some pics up if you get chance mate, would love to see them.
When you have to many to store can you send the excess to me, then I can pretend to my mates I made them. Class whiskey by the way
I've only ever parted with one....the Ferrari F1 car posted earlier in the thread. Just didn't like how it came out so binned it. The Abelour 12....aye, its a nice one that, one of my favourites, pleased you enjoyed it mate.
I've been a modeller most of my life and the last few years, most of the brand's available including Airfix who are now starting to bring out really top kits as well as the starters that Lidl sell. I've pushed on with some builds these past ten or so years, mostly Aircraft , Tanks and military, Figures and Sci-Fi using all mediums, resin after market parts and such that Have really upped my builds.... This hobby takes you away from it all when you need a break. Once I have found how to post images on here I'll stick a couple of my efforts up.
Excellent stuff....would love to see some of what you've done. Pics....what I do is (on phone): Take photo. Go to gallery, select photo. Take a screenshot of the photo ( on my phone I press on button and volume down button at the same time). Go back to gallery, select the screenshot. Click edit, and crop to desired size, and save. Then on here, make your post, then click "upload file" ( next to "post reply" option. Choose the screenshot you want. Select "full image". Post reply. Hopefully that makes sense. It's much easier than it sounds.....
I'll try Tuesday as I'm busy tomorrow. On the subject, I have quite a numbered of kits from around the world that I began stashing to build, so much so, my garage loft is overflowing. I've began selling some stuff off that I'll never get around building. My cabinets are chocker but I get as much pleasure now as when I was a kid. Just better at it now.
Ebay , my only outlet when I do. Other than that I 'm mates with the Flory models lads. Florymodels.co.uk
