The concerning thing about Bissouma is that we haven't seen much evidence outside of a brief run of games at the beginning of the season that he was worth the fuss.

Conte obviously had his issues but for whatever reason clearly didn't rate him, and tbh since the red card at Luton he hasn't really been at the races.

Not sure if it's a confidence thing but I do worry that of all the Brighton 'graduates' now at bigger clubs, very few have gone on to shine. Burn and White have done very well, but the likes of Cucurella, Caicedo, Mac Allister and Bissouma have been distinctly underwhelming.

I didn’t see the game last night as I had to be up for 3am before a 520 mile round trip to Portsmouth.
But it didn’t surprise me that Bissouma was sent off. He is a modern day Cattermole or Savage. He can be - and often is - very effective at breaking up play in midfield and thereby protecting the back four. The number of red and yellow cards he has suggests his tackling is not always well timed though :emoticon-0105-wink:<yikes>

His tackling is rank just like his shooting, I'm sure he will improve on both otherwise Ange will out him

I don't understand this reasoning personally. Modric took time to build enough toughness too but managed just fine once he developed, and look how that turned out.

Is Gil any more lightweight than Saka, for instance?

I think Gil can come good if given more time. I'm just not sure he's going to be given it.

Is there an avenue for appealing these cards.
eg Udogie's was not absolutely a yellow, these decisions can have a far reaching effect on a teams performance.

My recollection is that Modric had the toughness when he arrived, raised as a youngster in the Croation lower leagues, Saka is a mile in front of Gil unfortunately
As for Gil getting time I think you are spot on

Gil hasn't really shown that he should have a starting position so he'll not get the time imho

I didn't realise that Bissouma's red comes with a 4 game ban due to the previous straight red

Does that mean he misses all the game before he’s off to AFCON so he won’t be back for Spurs until they’re out of the tournament which could be mid February?

Think I read somewhere that the earliest he could return would be 31 Jan.

Last Group game for Ivory Coast is Monday 22nd Jan. In the circumstances I think we can expect him back promptly.

Not being funny - and it certainly won't happen - but if he took some responsibility for his enforced absence from our games (more for the first sending off than this one maybe) then perhaps he would make himself unavailable for the ACN. Just saying....

When did this become a rule?

I must have missed the memo.

Also: wasn't his previous sending off due to two bookings, not a straight red?

I'd have more respect for the ACN if it was every four years like the Euros. But every two years seems excessive, and it's not just because we lose important players. I have always thought the two years is too often, particularly during the European season.

I read it on line so it could be wrong ,but if it's on Twitter it must be true <doh>
I think the ban will include the FA cup though
