So that was an interesting game I expected a bit more from Blackburn, they offered very little today and seemed content to have everyone behind the ball. I think the sending off really helped as we were (again) struggling to break down a team who didn't want to attack. I don't think the 4-0 flattered us, but it was fortunate to score those extra goals to make the score line that bit sweeter in extra time. I still have the feeling we haven't really "clicked" yet. I'd be ****ed if I know what the answer is though.
Yep, and speaking of youngsters, Charly is four months younger than Mara! Took me by surprise that. I was critical of Martin for dropping Charly earlier in the season, but I think he's doing the right thing by him. He's too young and timid to be our starting number ten. This league takes no prisoners. It might take him the whole season to get used to it.
And yet he has been proven right. Everyone wanted him to change our style during that run of defeats. But he persevered, and now we are 14 unbeaten. Kind of funny how in the Prem everyone moans about managers who play long ball, but in the Champ everyone moans about managers that want to play a passing game.
I think we were spoiled by how good Lavia was, but he’s a weird cyborg. Normally players of that age take a bit longer.
I think we need to take more risk with our passing. On more than a few occasions today aribo was in a great position for a chipped ball over the top. But each time we didint risk the pass. Other than that it was a good performance
He showed in one of his first appearances, last season against Leeds, that he could play with that exquisite ball inside their left back for KWP to score. Then the finish against Man City in the QF of the Carabou. I also noticed, in the few games he was on the field with Charly last season, that they seemed to have an understanding of give and go football and interacted quite well together.
Great result, but why oh why did they have to play Last Christmas at half time. https://whamageddon.com/
Sulemana: 704 minutes - 0 goals - 3 assists Fraser: 639 minutes - 2 goals - 1 assist Edozie: 703 minutes - 4 goals - 1 assist
LTL this. It's all too easy (myself included) to write players off if they do not make an immediate impact. I thought Mara was brilliant in his cameo against Cardiff and I haven't seen today's game but seems he has been petty good again The games come thick and fast over the festive period and we are going to need the squad. More than happy for Mara to get a start, looks like he has been working hard for it.
Right. Meaning that Edozie deserves to keep his place if he keeps up this form. (Also I'd say goals are more valuable than assists, since an assist is only half the job done).
I don't want this to sound like I'm being negative, but I do hope that today's result and performance doesn't lead to KWP getting a sustained run at LB. For me he's our best player, so why limit his impact by not playing on his best side? Sure, he can play at LB. But I'd much, much, much rather see him at RB. The only time I've accepted him as a LB was when we had Tino (because when you have two excellent RBs, something has to give). If Larios' return isn't on the horizon, then I'd like to think that we'd be in the market for a LB next month. Because I do understand why Martin would want to drop Manning!
I would question whether we are in the financial position to sign another left back who would firmly put manning on the bench. But we do seemingly only have 3 full backs in the squad and are getting away with it at the moment partly due to versatility
Word on the grapevine is, West Ham will make an offer for KWP in January……….praying the offer is judged crap and he stays ……but in honesty KWP would improve a lot of premier league teams.
Just watching the highlights and saw the commentators suggest that Blackburn were complaining about the first goal - despite their defender managing the impressive achievement of blocking their goalkeeper and bear hugging Edozie. There was a foul there, arguably two. But not from Edozie - from the Blackburn defender
