It's just ridiculous incompetence again from VAR. Good job we didn't need the point.

Definitely offside for the first. Not that bothered though, 2-1 away from home for some of these young lads isn't a bad scoreline really but I don't think any of them really covered themselves in glory

I agree. The pitch was like a farmer's field which is a big drawback when you're used to playing on a superior surface. Doesn't make you give the ball away like they did though.

Kelleher hasn't look great in his recent appearances either. Hopefully just a blip before, he's looked good previously.

I dont rate him as a keeper. he saves pens and passes the ball but the general skills of a keeper are lacking. he has learned of alisson on 1 on 1s though.

Sadly, there was not one young player that I thought “he’s got something”.

In the past, when we just saw glimpses of him, I thought he looked good - but having seen more of him I've changed my mind. It's hard to be second-fiddle to Alisson of course, you'll always suffer in comparison - but he's not filling me with confidence at all, sadly.

Apart from Quansah they all look like boys in a man's game. Perhaps with a bit more experience, but it's hard to get excited by them.

Kelleher is better than what he’s putting on show this season, has been very disappointing.

I must say, I wasn’t expecting much tonight but it’s miles away from a few years back where we could throw out an 11 like that and you’d at least see a team still that knew the drill.

I thought they were going to score every time they got chance to shoot. I think he's too small, certainly didn't appear as an imposing figure on the goal line

He doesn't come out and make himself big like Ali - he doesn't know when to come and when not to. There've been maybe half a dozen goals he's conceded recently where I've thought "Ali saves that".
Like I said, big boots to fill, but he's a long way off atm I think.
Shame, because I really thought he had it.

he's done alright on one on ones. He almost saved that one as well as he timed his go for the ball well.

But its the basics. If we have a free against us I never ever worry if big al is in goal. Kelleher, i just don't think he'll reach them. He man is 25 now so theres no bulk to go on here is there? he looks weak in the shoulders and i just don't think the basics are there. Maybe he needs to just go play but like dean henderson I think he will flatters to deceive and will be found out as a no 1.

    Why?

    not on pens
    not on passing the ball,
    not on panicking
not eve on 1 on 1s.

It will be positioning, Catching, shot stopping, holding the ball. that sounds harsh lads cos it is a bit but WHEN the LFC no 1 shirt comes up for grabs (and it will) I'd not want kelleher to get it.

BTW My pick is harvey Davies and hes now played 100% of crews games in league 2 and they are up to 5th in the league.

He's 20 now, taller than kelleher, though not as tall as the giant alisson. about 6 foot 3" but his arms are massively long. he's just as good on the ground as kelleher so i'd be interested to see how he looks when he comes back in after a season of the rough stuff.

He's never going to be our first choice keeper, just doesn't have the quality.
Can only see him in a yo-yo team, maybe lower table team at best.

but thats wasn't an 11 last night that was a child team..

We played in the league cup say with shaqiri, origi and minamino and honestly we struggled through.

what i said pre game is the truth. Gordon never played barely with doak. I'd guess maybe you'd count game son one hand due to injuries etc. chambers and Bradley and quansha? maybe a few games but very few. Chambers was completely out of his depth. He's barely played any u21 games due to injuries and not with quansah.

however most of all elliott couldn't get going. jones was only interested in hogging the ball and backheels and endo was blown off it AGAIN. that midfield was diabolicial.

I pulled out the leicester 3-3 in the league cup QF for reference

    Kelleher
    Bradly Gomez Koumeito Tsimikas
    Henderson Morton Ox
    Williams Frimino Minamino

subs on were konate for koumetio who was eaten alive (and not seen since due to mad loans). Keita for henderson Milner for morton on 45mins. (whos spent the next 2 year son loans) and beck on for tsimikas.

    We have been disjointed before.

In theory we could go like this

    Kelleher
    Gomez Konate Quansah Tsimikas
Elliott Endo Jones (or thaigo or bajceitc)
    Doak/Gordon Gakpo Jota

YOu'd be carrying 3 or 4 kids still.

We've robbo injured, matip injured, konate half fit, thiago out for 12 months, Bajcetic gone and jota out as well.

So we've got even more young lads i nthe line up.

We have now learned a lot as a club.

    1. Bradley is unfit and needs to go back on loan
    2. Chambers is nowhere near the level and needs to go on loan.
    3. Senior players fluffed thier lines big time so jan window for a 6 is vital (last 3 or 4 spell that out for endo hugely)
    4. Doak/gordon might be minded a bit for now but they will need to play football soon if the feeling is they are ready physically.

I'm guessing you're not including Quansah in that. Of the other youngsters I liked Scanlon (although he didn't get much time, he showed real positional awareness and urgency) and McConnell who made a few good tackles and one superb one and wasn't pushed off the ball as easily as the other youngsters. Doak, who's been good in other games, looked out of his depth. I like him better on the right. Tbf none of the seniors put in a good show either, except maybe Gomez. He's getting back to his best imo.

Although it was a tough watch, in retrospect, our youngsters managed to give a top of their league side, a challenge. The day after and especially bearing in mind their first goal should never have stood, that disjointed, semi-dysfunctional performance matched the performance of seasoned professionals.

Haven’t seen anything really said about the first goal. From the stil I saw looked well off albeit would be interested to see the frame before as only shot I saw the ball looks like was leaving the guys foot rather than the initial contact.

Can only assume that 1 frame earlier shows him onside.

None of us expected anything from this game so no reason to be too down-heartened that we got nothing.

That's how offside is determined. - "the moment the ball is last touched by the most recent teammate to touch the ball". Why would you think it was the initial contact? That picture I posted is the still of the ball leaving the player's foot which is the frame that is supposed to be used.
