Im not sure I agree with you on this. Slater and Traore absolutely can play there, but as a team I think we look much less effective when we dont have at least one proper wide player on the wing. It feels like when we do play the likes of Slater/Traore/Tufan/Twine out wide, we get the ball forward much slower and the intricate passing game comes in. That’s when I think we struggle to break down teams as well. It seemed like our form turned a corner when Jaden (and latterly Lokilo) started playing regularly, so I’d be interested in how the stats compare. It might just be me preferring proper wingers and therefore be my head being biased. A winger would be my top priority in Jan.
Pack the middle and knock it long (and high) . Bound to get at least one second ball drop to one of ours in the box. Result.
Roseys said a number of times he wants to play with 2 proper wingers. His system clearly benefits from it. Problem comes when you don't have any available. Then you have to play what you've got as a best fit. If we had decent wide players available and they weren't playing then that's one thing. But the debate becomes a little arbitrary when theyre all out injured.
Seems Vinagres back. I'd be tempted to play Slater inside left of midfield for defensive security with vinagre on the overlap down the left. Seem to recall us doing that earlier this season to decent effect. Maybe also consider Christie ahead of Coyle on the right if we want to try to maximise natural width. Guess Vaughan could be an option on the left also. Tufan did okay coming off the right towards the end of last season also. We still have options. If not out and out wingers to satisfy the 'round pegs in round holes' brigade.
In some ways that's positive news. With those innocuous ones with no one around it can sometimes mean something far worse.
This is a good point that I've not seen anyone else mention. I'd forgotten how often he's played right wing in the absence of available wingers.
Sometimes away from home you have to be a bit more pragmatic, 352 in possession and 532 out of possession. It just looks more balanced to have wing backs, Vinagre/Christie or Coyle when we don't have out-and-out wingers. Yes. Harry Vaughan might get his chance on the left, but we still will look unbalanced with no natural winger on the right. As you say, LIam probably won't start in that way, but sometimes needs must, and it just looks more balanced to me. But there again what do I know!
Hello guys, seems like this won't be available by regular means in tigers plus. I'm thinking about getting a VPN for these recurring situation. Any advice, which is a good one for the task? Good luck tomorrow. Up the Tigers
Ah ok - my mistake, thought even Sky mid-week was available on T+. Good thing I got a week free trial on our streaming service down here as we were also televised for QPR. Plenty of televised games coming up too so might just grab it for a month.
Tough game this. We are very similar in terms of current form over the last 6 games but they have reasonable home form and will be looking to take 3 points from the game.Heart's saying we can go and get something from this, head is thinking otherwise. Safe journey to those travelling to what is normally a good day out as a Saturday fixture but for some obscure reason is arranged for a mid-week...
If Vinagre is fit, I would be keen to see him start left back and Twine left wing. It worked so well against Leicester with Twine coming inside and Vinagre pushing ahead and making the runs giving the width. Twine also puts the shift in to help protect and cover when Vinagre is wanting to attack. I don’t think they have played together on that wing since, which is pretty mad really, as they complimented each other perfectly and it looked like it would become and excellent partnership.
