I aim to make Aberdeen the third force on these Scottish boards, Stereo. It's something of a dream of mine, as you can imagine, and only Kilmarnock stand in the way. I'm going to need to rely on Celtic and Rangers fans coming through the turnstiles to keep me afloat until such a time as ER or this mysterious "Pope" join, right enough, but I'm keeping my toe crossed. For the good of the game, you all owe this place a visit. Since the Aberdeen boards came under new management a couple of days ago, Tina has been the star visiting attraction and performer. You must all learn from her or the game will die. I don't think ER has ever once visited these boards and I'm not entirely certain that Pope exists - I need to take other people's word for this. Hardly an auspicious start, then, but a start nevertheless. I know for a fact you'll be rooting for me.
You should ask Mick to make you Mod. That way you can promote articles to newsnow and maybe attract more Dons supporters. ps Pope does exist.
Hmm. Interesting. And logical, it would seem. I'll need to get back to you on that once I've discovered what Newsnow is. I think I remember the administrator making an announcement a while back, but I never really took it in. As for being a moderator on a one-man Aberdeen board? Well, the surrealism of such a set-up is certainly enticing enough, although I fancy I would eventually fall out with myself over my own picky interventions. If I ever found that I had crossed the line, for example, I'm not sure I could hold back whilst writing myself a private letter of rebuke. I'd find it v. hard to keep the contempt out of my words, and this would only lead to further schisms as I replied with indignant fury. The democratic system of checks and balances may be seen to break down at this point. I'll ask myself, though, and see what I think. In that case, MD, I look forward to his arrival, as it seems we have much in common.
I'm moved by the sincerity of your well-wishes, most definitely. But a little help would be nice, hmm? Being based in Elgin, Theo, you can hardly use the excuse that the Aberdeen boards are too far from your home for you to get to. (I fly in from Ireland every day, for pity's sake.) Step up, man, and play your part in history.
Probably not a good idea being a Mod actually. You get accused of all sorts, every post and thread that gets removed is your fault and no one respects you
The moderators get given a fairly hateful time on this site, it's true. Without explicitly clear and detailed guidelines, however, they will always be forced to apply their private moral guidelines (or tastes) to a very public setting - and if this isn't a recipe for resentment and disaster, I'm not sure what is. The task is near impossible. (It doesn't help, of course, that some people like to test boundaries (in the manner of children testing a parent), whilst others seem to thrive on the rather tired practice of trying to be shocking for the mere sake of being shocking. But there we are. The irony, of course, is that it's never, ever shocking - just dull.) Perhaps moderators should be entirely anonymous? This would be as good a place as any to start. And it is with humility and a deep, patriotic love and sense of civic duty, that I hereby announce my candidacy for President of these United States of America. (I may be having a breakdown.)
Right. It appears that Newsnow is some sort of aggregated news service, Stereo. I never said I was quick on the uptake, okay? I suspect that any articles put forward from this site to Newsnow may (need to) be edited - or tampered with in some way - by people who have no idea what theyâre doing. So Iâll pass. (This is my free-time writing, is all I mean to say, and Iâm reluctant to put myself under any operating constraints or worry too much about grammar or - how you say een Eengleesh? - facts.) It was a very good suggestion, though, thanks, and maybe once I've caught up with Kilmarnock (those sly, dirty cheats have posted roughly 40 threads compared to Aberdeen's 25 or so), I'll be able to think of doing something sensible or Newsnow worthy - just so long as no nippy wee busybody tries to edit anything or mess around with my "art".
